Hi -
I have read on this forum that several have received phone calls from colleges notifying you that you have received a scholarship to their school, and some, multiple schools. I have also read that "the powers that be have" not officially given the schools permission to contact students. Conflicting, for sure.
My question - My status changed on the CC website Monday, but it has been complete, maddening silence ever since - even after emailing the ROO at my choice school.
Is this the case for anyone else??

DS only got a call after he emailed.
Don't be shy... get excited... your allowed:wink:
Call and email every ROTC on your list.

In the boat with you -

We are riding the rocky waves right along side you! Our son has not heard a word from anywhere.
We remain hopeful, as should you. Perhaps certain schools - no matter the size (his schools are mostly smaller, private) - have not been given the go ahead to contact their students??
Stay positive. I know it's hard, we are all very anxious in our house as well. Let's ride this storm together...

My son emailed his #1 school and recieved an email back saying he had recieved the scholarship to the school Monday afternoon. He got an email from his #2 school yesterday saying the same. He has not heard anything from the other schools as of yet, so I would imagine they all have different guidelines they follow. I have told him that if he doesn't hear by today to call each of them.

Our big issue is that he really has not decided which school to attend. Since most of the schools were out of state we wanted to wait until he found out about the scholarship before having the expense of traveling to each school. Since you only have 30 days from the official notice to select a school it would be nice to know where we are going visit as soon as possible. I would suggest that if you don't hear soon just call the ROO, as my son put it, this is his primary job so he shouldn't mind the call.

Sure a lot different then 3 years ago when the individual batallions gave out the scholarships, you knew right away then, very little waiting.

Still waiting

Our status did not change, we were told by our Cadet Command contact that this did not mean we did not recieve a scholarship offer, it all takes time.

I am wondering how to beef up my application if I was not selected. I know I can take the ACT again, and SAT, I have a 3.7 GPA, 25 ACT (without writing), 1130 SAT reading and math and a 600 SAT writing score. Any ideas are appreciated.

My son has been told

My son was visiting one of his schools on Monday. He was pulled in by the command Monday Afternoon and told he recieved the four year Army scholarship to each of the five schools on his list. He has not heard from anyone else.

You may have to hold your breath for a couple more days until they have completed the process for this board. You should call the ROO at one of the schools on your list and see if they can tell you anything, they may know before the status page changes.

As far as your application goes, if you were included on this board you there is not much you can do to your application other then submit new ACT or SAT scores, and change you school list. I do not believe you can add or change anything else. You could ask your ROO at one of your schools more about that.

Your stats look pretty good as far as GPA and test scores. The question would be what else was on your application...sports, leadership, extras. As I'm sure you have read the Army looks at the whole person. My son had a 3.55 GPA and a 24 ACT. He recieved a scholarship this round to at least his #1 and #2 school, we haven't heard from the others yet. He scored very high in the athletics and leadership portion of the application which I'm sure was a big help.

Another thing to consider is your school selections, if you listed only schools like Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and others like that your chances become slimmer. These schools have a lot of applicants and the competition is tougher. What were your school selections. One good thing is that you can go into your application between boards and change the school selections if you wish.

If you were already boarded, you can only beef up your score by retaking the ACT or SAT.

JCLEPPE

I have been team captain of the VBall team for 3 years at the Varsity Level, played Varsity Flag Football, Volunteered at the VA for 4 years, Was a high school and middle school referee for my county, and scored an outstanding on my interview with my PMS.

My School choices were Embry-Riddle Aeronautical College (Arizona and Florida), St. Leo's University, and University of Central Florida for my top 4.

I really thought I had a great chance, not giving up hope, but am very anxious. I know I barely made it to this board as the PMS got the interview score in on the last day, but Cadet Command said I did make it to the review board.

I guess I will retake the ACT and SAT, my GPA has gone up a bit, so I will send another transcript, but I am still holding my breath for a status change or letter.

Thanks for any suggestions.

ACT question

We were told any ACT score over 24 would not be assigned additional points for the overall score but would only be used to differentiate similar candidates. Did anyone else receive this information? If so, retaking the ACT may not be worth much unless you scored 23 or below.

We live in the Midwest and ACT is the preferred test. There's probably a similar number for SAT but do not know what it is.

S saw the status change on Monday afternoon. Called his #1 and #2 school. They said they did not see any applicants who got the scholarship to their school. They simply did not see anything. On Tuesday, he called #3 and #4 school. It was the #4 school's PMS who told him "yes, you got the scholarship. And you got it for school #2, #3, and #4.

S called #2 PMS and told HIM that he got the scholarship to his battalion. The PMS was very excited to hear that "Oh, I wanted you in my battalion, that's great!"

Nobody contacted S. S proactively reached out to all and finally got his answer.

It's a great mystery how come the PMS of the #4 school can see his scholarship status while the other PMSs couldn't.

Still waiting also...

My son's status changed on Monday also. He hasn't heard from any of his schools. Within the last couple of weeks he has reached out to the PMS' at his top schools so he does not want to contact them...he wants to wait until they contact him.

Don't worry about it too much. I never got contacted by the PMS at my schools till a while after the letter came. Don't read into it. You'll be fine!

I'm thinking #2's first board list isn't quite complete, so they don't want them giving out "bad" news (you didn't make it this round) that may not be complete. So CC puts a lid on their list.

Pure speculation on my part though...

Disappointment

In response to my son's email, the ROO at his first choice school told him he did not get the scholarship there and "the next board will be in January, hopefully we will have good news to share with you".
Now, either the ROO can see all the schools' results and knows son was offered nothing this go round, or ROO can't see any other results but that school's.
Seven schools were listed, nothing from the other six... Son has 3.75 GPA (several APs), 1360 SAT and an Eagle Scout. He also had his interview with the PMS of his first choice school (6 hours from here) and was told he received the mas point value of 200.
Go figure -

Last year I inquired about the change of score after someone has been boarded. A senior staff member at Cadet Command told me that if you retook either the ACT or SAT to make sure that we sent in new scores as it would automatically change your score if you improved.
They also told us that this was the only way to improve your score after you have been boarded.

CC also told the same thing to a PMS that we dealt with as well as a ROTC advisor.

Ummmmmmmmm, you mean #1 school, not #2 school.

If what you are speculating is true, does it mean that S still has a chance with #1 school? I hope NOT . I actually prefer #2 school (a better academic environment based on everything we learned). Though S's preference was shifting toward #2 lately, he was still disappointed for about 1 minute that he did not get it for #1 but happily settled with the idea of #2 school. I would hate to stir the pot again.

(besides, #2 school provides free room and board. It's full ride now. I did back of the envelop calculation, the total scholarship benefit including room and board now amounts to ~$250K)

Actually, if neither #1 nor #2 had anything to discuss, I would speculate (and that's all it is) is that both lists are incomplete, with no incomplete list being made available. However, the ones who HAVE been confirmed with a scholarship to those schools are probably sent to the "other" schools so they know what their recruits are looking at.

I think the good news (if you don't like #1) is that the list from #4 is probably accurate.

However, I would advise you not to count the scholarship in pocket until a few more steps are passed (DoDMERB being one of them). And strange things happen along the way to cadets that you never expect. If you have the time and wherewithall to revisit #2 in the next month, do so. Have him spend time with the unit if possible and have lunch with a few cadets. These are the people he will spend the first couple of years with. It will make everyone that much more certain of the right selection.

That being said, I think congratulations are in order.
