Congrats to everybody that is getting awarded scholarships this round. I remember how excited my daughter was last year so I totally understand. :thumb::thumb: I was curious if anybody was willing to share what schools they were awarded scholarships to and/or where you want to attend.

I'm just curious because the diversity of schools amazes me....and also because I remember some schools filling up fast last year. I saw somebody posting about Texas A&M this week and know they filled their slots fast last year. Obviously, a very popular ROTC batallion....even if they aren't Longhorns!!

Good luck to everybody in the DoDMERB process and thank you for deciding to serve!!

Son has Ohio State, U of Alabama, U of Arkansas...
We are making the rounds - doing tours over the next couple weeks.
I'd say it will be the biggest decision he has made in his life thus far.

-I think the reality of it is just starting to soak in, he has talked about it for years -
but now it is starting to really sink in that this is real, not a day-dream or a video game.

Nothing specific, just a new level of seriousness/intensity I had not seen before.
The teenage "I'm way to cool to care" seems to have gone away, at least for the moment.

Thank God for small favors:cool:

Fianlly got notification of which schools offered.

4 year Scholarship:
University of Idaho
University of Montana
University of West Florida
Washington State University

3 year AD Scholarship
Oregon State University

Now the decision just needs to be made

Jcleppe - curious by what means did you receive that official notification. We were told by ROO at #1 school to wait for letters to be sent and nothing is official until those are sent/received...

Sorry about the confusion. My son called one of the schools on his list and the ROO gave him the list of schools that he was offered the scholarship. We have not recieved an official letter as of yet.

We were told the letters were to be mailed from Cadet Command tomorrow, November 19.

Finally heard from a school today (VMI). Awarded 4 year scholarship. DS' choices are VMI, James Madison, and George Mason.

I got the 4 year scholarship at my #1 school Duke University and I hope to be accepted and attend their university. It's been my dream for so long and I can't believe it's starting to come true.

I also got the 4 year to my #1 Duke!! Did you apply ED? Really hoping I can get in at Duke.... I have 4yr scholarship to NC State and UNC Chapel Hill as well.

Congrats!

Congrats to those who have news!
Bird - congrats on 4yr scholarship - if its a navy I thought they were awarded to applicant AND SPECIFIC school- but maybe things have changed.
Think its good that you visit during RAT time - its well into it now, RAT challenge and olympics are over, my son's company hasnt lost any more recently. I remember being so surprised last year, we did see few more leave just before and at thanksgiving and then there were few that didnt return for 2nd semester. VMI is so different from others on your list - good luck with visit

That's awesome! It would be nice to actually know someone when I went to orientation at Duke. I applied ED, I'm just playing the waiting game until I get the admissions decision. PM me and we can get to know each other in case we're both Blue Devils next year.

I am an applicant for a scholarship and am definitely doing ROTC. I saw UVA's program a small bit and was REALLY pleased with it. Can you explain what the FTXs are like? How intense are they? What do you do?

FTX's vary by units. It's all up to the guys who plan them. Usually they include obstacle courses, land nav, STX lanes, ruck marches, ruck marches, marching with a ruck, IMT and squad tactics, patrol base ops. And much more.

Sometimes, depending on where you go, you have opportunities to do cool things that a certain base has. We got to do VCOT (virtual convoy operations training) and other weapon simulations.

So what school do....

jcleppe

I see you were accepted by Washington State, so was my DD. She was really excited.

Good luck,

RGK

Won scholarships to the University of Virginia and Michigan State University. Planning to accept offer to UVA, even though admission is unlikely :(

If you think the admission is unlikely, why are you accepting the offer to UVA??? Please note that transferring the scholarship later in the season is NOT an guaranteed affair.

Have you talked to the PMS and/or ROO of the UVA battalion? What are their opinions? In the past, I heard that UVA admissions office did not give a lot of weight to the scholarship winner status (those were the ancient times, like three years ago, when it was much, much, and much easier to get the scholarship), but given that scholarship competition is now pretty fierce, winning the scholarship may actually carry some weight. You need to see how much PMS and ROO can help you in the admissions process. Also, the fact that the PMS of UVA did not say "pass" when s/he saw your file means that s/he has some feel for whether the odds are good that you will get accepted into UVA. Please call and get the inside scoop.

I don't know maybe I am overly cautious, but a BIG portion of the strategy advice I gave my son throughout the whole process is about coming up with the optimal balance between and the combination of ROTC scholarship chances and the odds of actually being admitted to the school of his choice. And of lot of moves made by him well in advance from the time he put together the school of intent list and even today after the results are out are all about this particular issue.

Congrats to all the students/scholarship recipients! When did you guys start applying for ROTC scholarship? My son is currently a junior. Are scholarship apps something you do inconjunction with college admission apps? Or you apply after you've been accept? Keep hearing senior year is too late for scholarships....so how early do he need to start applying?

Thanks!
