Basketball Throw: 69 ft.
Pullups: 11
Shuttle Run: 9.8 seconds
Situps: 88
Pushups 40
Mile run: 6:07

should I possibly consider retaking the test for higher results? Please be honest of whether these are acceptable or not.

Those are passing scores, but work on the pushups. I did 98 pushups for my CFA.

Why would you do 98 push-ups when the maximum you receive points for is 75?

yeah, thats a good question. Is the person administering the CFA get a chance to put in MORE than the maximum number? Does it look any better?

No, once you reach the maximum the person administering the CFA should tell you to stop.

Agree with all comments above. Men should be able to do more than 40 pushups, altho the other scores are all very good. Doing more than the max merely tires you out -- you get no additional benefit for it from USNA. And your facilitator is supposed to tell you to stop at the max.

Just took the CFA today

I just took the USNA CFA today. I was a little disappointed as I didn't feel the basketball throw was necessary and that I could've performed much better. Do they put emphasis on how your results or as long as you passed the test? Here are my results:

Mile run: 6:05m
Basketball throw: 78 feet
Push-ups: 75
Sit-ups/Crunches: 95
Shuttle run: 8.00s
Pull-ups:18

Is it possible to retake the CFA? From what I heard, you can retake it as many times before the deadline.

You're above average on the BB throw and almost maxed out on the rest....in my opinion I would say you are good.

I agree....the basketball throw is worthless

The Mids at Summer Seminar told us the max was 100.

Remember that the CFA is designed to "appease"/satisfy all SAs (other than USCGA, which has its own test, and maybe USMMA). Thus, certain elements are more important to some SAs than other events.

USNA doesn't care much about the BB throw. I'm not suggesting you bomb it but, rather, if that's the only thing that isn't exceptional, do NOT retake the test for USNA purposes. If you're also applying to USMA and/or USAFA, one of them wants the BB throw (can't recall which). Nonetheless, that throw is still very good and your other scores great.

I see zero reason to retake the CFA with those scores.

P.S., I'm all for doing your very best in everything. However, one thing we all learn at USNA is that, when you do very well on one thing (your best at the time), you may need to move onto something else and do well in that. At this point, if I were the OP, I would focus on academics, staying out of trouble, and staying in shape so you're ready for Plebe Summer. That's a much more valuable use of the OP's time and energy than retaking the CFA.

Totally agree w/ 1985 ...hammering on the bb throw'd be majoring in the minors. Nicely done and congrats on your great performance. Now focus on exempting yourself from calc, chem, and/or physics. Now those are majors.

Worthless....except that it's a graded CFA event and probably won't change in the near future.

I first took the CFA in...1977.

The one event I maxed was the basketball throw (they gave me a max score) I tossed it across the gym and hit the wall...(baseball/shot-put/javelin thrower)

It's been around at least that long...don't see it going away anytime soon.

.

At a USNA seminar, the guy told us it shows "Upper body strength, coordination, and helps the coach out if he's looking for a new QB"

so why do you think those are passing scores. My son just did BB throw 64 feet, pullups 18 (max), Shuffle 9.9 seconds, Crunches 66, pushups 50 and 6.54 in the mile run. Are those passing? Why do you think so?

Last week, my son did the following on the usna CFA:
BB toss: 64
Pullups: 18
Shuffle 9.9
Crunches: 66
Pushups: 50
Mile run: 6.54

Pass? Fail? Should he take it again if he passed? I.e., is the usna cfa strickly pass/fail and if you pass is there any good reason to take the cfa again? Thanks.
