I just received my nomination, as it is shown on my West Point admissions file, but I am confused about what the code means. My code is MO61, what exactly does this tell me and can I tell if the nomination is from my Senator or Congressman?

Thanks for any help!

MO obviously means it's from Missouri, and 61 means it's from a Senator. If it were from your congressman it would be MO# with # being your congressional district. No state has 60 districts so admissions uses 61 to mean the nomination is from the Senator.

AVT is correct. Here is one more tidbit about a Senator's nom code:
If you receive your Senator's nom, the state abbreviation will be followed by a 6 and then a 1 or 2 for Senator #1 or Senator#2. EX: MO61 or MO62.

shale2011 received a nom from Senator 1 in MO. Congratulations! :thumb:

How do you know which of your Senators are #1 or #2?
Congratulations Shale2011!!:thumb:

I also received a nomination from senator 1 in Missouri yesterday. My nomination was to the Naval Academy though.

Who knows? Seniority? Alphabetical order? Surely the Senator in question will inform you themselves via snail mail (we got nice certificate, letter from TX Senator KBH), phone call, something!

First came the phone call from the MOC, then the cheering, followed by the letter in the mail. Congratulations on another step forward in the process!

Congratulations OhioStateDad to you and your son!!!:thumb:
Did your son receive his noms from one of the Senators or from your Congressperson?

Son received a letter today informing him that he received a USAFA nomination.

Congratulation right back to the both of you:biggrin:

Both came from the Congressman, neither were principle noms but we are still not out of the running:wink:.

Don't you feel that interest for USAFA, compared to the other Academies, is significantly less in PA? I'm from NEPA and only 6 individuals in my district, out of 53 highschools, were nominated by my congressman, which implies that only us 6 want to attend USAFA.

Has anybody heard anything from any Pennsylvania MOC? I heard while waiting in the lobby for a interview from another parent that their niece or nephew that interviewed at Fort Indiantown Gap was recently told they were NOT going to recieve a nom from Senator Casey but that was all we've heard to date. Based on that I figured no news was so far good news. I called Senator Specter's office a week before Thanksgiving and was told that Senator Specter's notices *might* be out by Thanksgiving but here it is a week later and still nothing one way or the other either.

We just heard from the Congressmans office today by phone and they stated Official letters are going out tomorrow. We have not heard from Senator Casey's office yet and my DS was not even selected for an interview with Spector. Remember Spector is a "lame duck" so I don't know if that would effect the process or not.

I remember on the online application there was an option to select an interview location preference; there were four options. Specter's office only conducted phone interviews with one panel rather than using four panels at four locations doing face-to-face interviews.

I got the impression with Specter's office that many did not even get a phone interview so if you were chosen for one that was an especially good sign this time around. Maybe they cut way back on their workload since they lost the re-election bid?

My son heard from our Congressman today....nom for USAFA.
He interviewed at Fort Indiantown Gap for a USNA nom with one of Senator Casey's committees (one of 5!) and has not heard anything yet.
Son also did a telephone interview with (one of?) Senator Specter's committees and has not heard anything from that board either.

I would definitely say that at least in our section of W. PA their is a much higher interest in the USNA than the USAFA. Evidently that is true "overall" across the US.

My son says the same thing about the kids he knows and it makes sense. There is still a lot of Regionalism. These are after all kids and most would rather be closer to home than not. Annapolis, the town, rocks and so does the area around it. When you can step outside the gate and be sitting at the Starbucks at the City Dock area in like a minute, literally, from campus it has a certain appeal. The boat babes that come in to town as tourist doesn't hurt either. If you don't get your first choice assignment, whatever it is, the Navy has the perception of having a lot more variety of 'cooler' operational jobs than just being a pilot than the air force does. And the kids around here all like living near a coast and the Navy sure has a lot more coastal bases than the AF. In our area, we know kids that applied to USNA or West Point and nothing else. AFA to them is like timbuktu. They visitied the schools by car since they live nearby and that's what they base their selection on. Better for us so just as well!

In one of my congressman's letters, he specifically encouraged local candidates to apply for other nominations if USNA was there first choice due to the level of competitiveness in the area.
