Anyone hear from Lautenberg or Menendez concerning nominations? The interview was roughly a month ago and was just wondering if anyone has heard anything yet.

I remember someone saying that they would get them out before Christmas. Who knows though.

Sen. Lautenberg's website has a timeline that indicates January 2011...an aide to Sen. Menendez stated January as well.

Son has his District interview on Monday. My understanding is that due to the large amount of applicants in NJ, the Senators coordinate with the District Reps.

My DD's interviewer for Senators told us directly they would be coordinating with our local Rep's office. She just had her interview with Rep. yesterday. Hoping to hear something soon.

Last year's candidates were notified late january/early february, if i recall correctly, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were around that time again this year.

A friend's father asked a district liason while at the senator interviews, and he was told December 10. The same friend, who had his district interview on Tuesday, was told that he would hear about that by next week.

I'm not passing judgement on which of the speculations I think are correct, I'm just relaying what I have heard.

That being said, I'm hoping for December 10th .

I hope you're right. We can't take much more of this!

Any news yet?

Has anyone heard from NJ senators or reps?

Same here nothing yet. My friend however lives down in Deptford and just received his representative nomination the other day.

I received a nom from Congressman Frelinghuysen about two weeks ago, still waiting on both senators though

NJ 10th D

Has anyone received any word from Congressman Donald M. Payne NJ-10 district on when the interviews are going to be held?

Thanks

No, sorry. :frown: We are district 2. DD had her interview on 12/4, but still no word from anyone. This is a slow, painful process. Just trying to enjoy the holidays and not worry for a while. :thumb:

New Jersey Nomination!

Son just rec'd a Nomination to the Air Force Academy from Rep. Rush Holt. Mr. Holt just called him about an hour ago! Still have gotten accepted to the AFA yet. How does that work? Any help would be great! Very excited about the nomination but very worried about the acceptance. DODMERB qualified but a little low on his SAT score for Verbal and is retaking it again in January. He has also applied for AFROTC, will this help him application for ROTC if he doesn't get accepted into the Academy?

Congratulations to your son!:thumb:

Thanks! It was a shock since he also applied to USNA and USMA also. What happends if he doesn't get an appointment? Does a nomination has any pull with getting accepted? If he doesn't get in is a chance at a AFROTC any better? He also applied for an AFROTC award.

I honestly have no idea. All I can say is that a nomination is a very good thing. My daughter only applied to USNA and USCGA and we are still waiting to hear for a nom. (CGA doesn't need a nomination.) I tried to talk her into the Air Force, but let's just say she is very focused. She also applied to NROTC. I could be wrong, but I don't think the nom helps with the ROTC. However, receiving a nomination would mean a highly qualified candidate IMHO, and that's always very good. :thumb:

First off, congratulations to your son! As for your questions, if he doesn't get an appointment, I believe that there's nothing he can do to join the class of 2015. There's still plenty of time though, and he shouldn't give up hope yet! If he doesn't get an appointment, he could do AFROTC for a year, reapply and go through the process again. If the will to attend is there, it's a viable option. Many cadets transferred from other colleges. I'm paraphrasing here, but as Major Belmont says, a one year set back really isn't all that horrible in the grand scheme of things.

Nominations don't have any pull on getting an appointment or AFROTC scholarships either as far as I know. However, Major Belmont told me (at least for USMA and Army ROTC) if you just missed the bar/WCS for an appointment, but are highly qualified, the academy sends out a list of highly qualified candidates to cadet command regarding ROTC scholarships. If your son is on that list, but there hasn't been a decision made for whether or not he gets a scholarship, his name on that list could put him over and help him get the scholarship. He could then go to a regular college for a year under the scholarship, reapply, and possibly make it in and join the class of 2016.

Also from speaking with Major Belmont, attending a SMC for that year as opposed to ROTC at say, Rutgers, could make his application look better the next time he applies. Not bashing RU ROTC, but it shows that your son is dedicated to the military way and has already experienced a year at an academy-like environment. VMI, The Citadel, Norwich, VT, Texas A&M and a few others are all SMC's.

Best of luck to your son!

Derrick

Thanks for the thoughts. He did apply to VFMC and they have been calling him. Got into Rutgers, ERAU and is waiting on Texas A&M. He did apply ROTC and is planning on being a walk on for any ROTC school he goes to if he doesn't get a Scholarship. Its a tough wait. He has already talked about doing a year and then apply again. Funny thing is when his Rep. called about his nomination he forgot to ask if it was a Principal one or not! Thanks again!

I also received a call from Rush Holt (District 12) the other day for a USNA nomination. Let me know when it shows up on the CIS for you!
