If someone goes to NAPS and does well (hold like a 3.0, 3.1ish) do they get a guaranteed slot into the Academy?

If they already received a nomination for USNA, but got sent to NAPS, do they still need to get another nomination?

Yes, but and
Yes, but:

Historically all a NAPSter has needed is 2.0 but also needed an OK conduct report.

And NAPSters are required to apply for a nom, but if they don't receive one, the admin seems to find Secretary of the Navy nom's.

(I think reading this board for too many years has trained me to split hairs. This is not a useful skill to have, is it?)

When should I expect to receive any more information from the Academy? Should I feel relieved and just wait for March to come? I heard that a nomination and LOA are as good as gold. Still, some said that nothing is definite until I get an actual appointment. Thank you.

USNA gives out Sec. of the Navy's nomination to enlisted personnel of the Navy and Marines. The are allotted 170 slots for enlisted, prior service members, which they never completely fill. The rest of the slots go to NAPS.
