I saw a thread from last January's AROTC board and thought it would be a good distraction to start one for this year too.

Anyone else (lurkers speak up too) waiting for the results? My DS is and while he's rather zen and chill about this I'M NOT! So whether you're a parent or prospective cadet please join me in the long month of waiting - post your location, and stats you'd like to(schools, majors etc...) we can root and cheer for each other and probably a few of us will continue to wait for the March board too. Good luck to all, look forward to talking with you!!

DS and I are from Cincinnati, OH - he hopes to attend either Ohio University or Eastern Kentucky University. Majors he's considering: International Affairs w/ 1 or 2 languages, Criminal Justice/Police Studies or Fire Studies. He is one of the odd prospects that were sent to do DodMERB before being offered a scholarship out of the October boards - he is medically qualified as of 23-12-10.

Once again, hope to connect with others waiting.........

Another one

He is one of the odd prospects that were sent to do DodMERB before being offered a scholarship out of the October boards - he is medically qualified as of 23-12-10.

DS is another one with a DodMERB form and no scholarship offer. Wouldn't you just love to know how this happens? Good news seems to be you get to do your physical during a down time, although they don't even take appointments at our site.

Interestingly, DS was told he would probably be a "second boarder." We can only hope.

Ok,,, been reading posts here for over a year,,, finally time to post. This is a great forum for students and parents to learn the ins and outs of the ROTC process

We sit in the same boat Ohio. Son hopes to attend Eastern Kentucky or University of Georgia, He wants to major in Criminal Justice, is now DoDMERB qualified as of 16-12-10, and yet to receive a scholarship offer. :thumb:

Yet another DodMERB process before scholarship offer~

My kiddo is in the same situation as well. Just when we thought we were understanding the process, they "shake it up" a bit! (lol)
DS was medically cleared in December and now we wait.
I am curious about the "second boarder" suggestion. VERY encouraging! Was this your ROO that mentioned this paradoxer?

Best of luck to all of you... and thanks Ohio for starting this string! :shake:

Hi! We've been lurking here for quite some time. DS applied to USAFA and USMA and AFROTC and AROTC. He's on the NWL for USMA. He's the hard worker and I'm the worrier for him! I have no idea where he comes up with so much drive and determination for his future at this age. Very proud of him. So many young adults on this board are so impressive and hard working. He has been working at it for 4 years! I was clueless to what I wanted at his age.

He was pushed to the 2nd board for AFROTC. Missed getting everything in for the 1st board for AROTC but will meet the board today for that one. His heart is Army. Ever since he began JROTC 4 years ago he has wanted nothing else and has worked hard for it. He'll be majoring in Computer Science. Applied to and was accepted to Norwich, The Citadel, VMI, and North Georgia. Now we wait. I can't afford to pay for him to go so I am so hopeful he receives a 4 yr or something to help! Of course I just completed FAFSA as well! He did get a Deans List Scholarship to Norwich so that will help. Fingers Crossed! As all of us parents out there we just want our children to have their dreams come true! Good luck to all! I may not post often but I always send good thoughts and vibes your way!

Hey all, I'm from the susburbs of Cleveland, Ohio and I'm looking to attend The Ohio State University for a degree in International Bussiness or attend George Mason University for a degree in International Relations. So far I've been accepted to both universities, I'm just waiting on the AROTC scholarship, needless to say I didn't make the first board. Unlike Ohio2015Parent's situation I'm way more stressed than my parents, who couldn't be anymore unconcerned about the whole affair, not out of arrogance or calousness but simply because they trust me to conduct my own bussiness, which is, in its own way, very reassuring. I got a DODMERB packet as well, which doesn't seem to mean very much to be honest. Anyways, best of luck to all my fellow second boarders, afterall they've just been saving the best for second last?

We are in Wichita, KS - DS has been accepted to Pittsburg State Univ (Pittburg, KS) and the University of Kansas. He has also been medically qualified; being clueless about this whole process, he decided late to apply to USMA and it was too late to do Congressional interviews, however they sent the DodMERB packet, so we got it submitted and quickly - he was qualified.
His heart is also Army! He was really impressed with the battalion at Pitt State - GO GORRILLAS! - it is his first choice.
Thank you for starting this thread...it gives me a new place to stalk for 3-4 weeks!

KAS0912-- your post could have been written about my son. He too has applied and been accepted to Norwich, North Georgia, MTSU and Tennessee Tech. Need one more bit of information for FAFSA and then we're done. Best of luck to you -- we are all waiting now for AROTC.

montalbanol- Best of luck to you and your son! Nerve racking process and I sure hope these hard working students reach their goals! I am so ready for it to be OVER. Then again, I am going to cry like a baby when he leaves! We live in FL and he applied to all out of state schools because I encouraged him to spread his wings a long time ago and reach for the sky. Our children need to know how hind sight is truly 20/20 and grab every opportunity they can while they are young and have the options! I was not jumping for joy over the thought of him in the military at first and still am not too thrilled but I definitely respect and admire his dedication and would be extremely proud of him to see him serve our country. Especially considering he is going this route to be an officer. I just want him to be safe as I am sure all parents do. Can't wait for updates! I will be sending positive vibes out there!

Stalking posts! LOL- sounds familiar! As we all come creeping out of the shadows....

Uniform 149

You mentioned that you have the dodmerb packet and it doesn't seem to mean very much. I was just wondering if you scheduled your appointments or if you have had them and are waiting for your qualification process. If you have not and are just holding on to them until you get word on your scholarship, that is not a good idea. You only have a short time to schedule appointments. If you haven't already get the exams done ASAP before the next round of scholarships are awarded and things get busy. This way if anything pops up in the process you will have more time to get it resolved and won't hold things up.

Of course if you have already done all this then disregard my ramblings.

Also now is a good time to keep in contact with your top school choices, keep your name in front of them and show them how interested and serious you are just in case you are not selected you may have a shot at a campus based scholarship if any are available. They will also be able to tell you if they have filled all their slots in which case you can adjust your school choices for the next board.

Good luck.

We live in New Hamsphire.....and are waiting to hear from the AROTC Board too. My son has been accepted to Virginia Tech, Corp of Cadets (his 1st choice school), The Citadel and Norwich...have not heard from VMI yet. As a Mom, I too, want to see him achieve his dreams that he has worked so hard for, to be a commissioned officer in the USARMY. His grandfather on my husbands side went to Westpoint and my father was in Vietnam with the Marine Corp. He will serve our country proudly...having the scholarship certainly would be a blessing. Praying for all you students and parents.

2nd AROTC Board

Like all of you, we are in the same situation. My son applied for a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship back in August. He was board ready but did not get a scholarship from the first board. He is a High School senior this year at a good Texas public HS. He has applied to Texas A&M (College Station and Galveston), Sam Houston State and Mary Hardin Baylor. He has been accepted to Sam Houston State, but he is waiting to hear from the others.

He got a 24 ACT with 9 of 12 on the writing portion. He is in great shape and did really well on the American President PFT (60,61 & 6:30). He spends at least 1.5 hours in the gym 4-5 times a week. He played football through his sophomore year, but was too small to continue at linebacker at his school. I expect he will also do well on the APFT. He is 267 of 639 in his HS class with some AP classes and a 3.32 GPA on a 4.0 scale. He has some extra-curricular, but his real strength is he has worked an average of 18 hours a week since Christmas of his sophomore year. He is certainly not the perfect candidate compared with many I have seen posted on this form over the last few months, but he has known he wants to be an Army officer since 6th grade. This has not changed. If he does not get the scholarship, he plans to still join Army ROTC at one of the three schools above.

He is signed up for the Spend the Night with the Corps program at Texas A&M the last week of January and we hope to be given some realistic idea of what his chances are for a scholarship then. Getting accepted to Texas A&M is "iffy", but He should be fine for Mary Hardin Baylor.

Does anybody else have a son or daughter in a similar situation as far as qualifications go? Almost everybody else I read about has much higher test scores and more extra-curricular.

Same thing here, DS was DoDMerb qualified during the last board in October but was not selected. He has already been accepted to The Ohio State University, Norwich, and St Boniventures with nice merit scholarships. He is wanting to be a Lawyer eventually and has been accepted to the Political Science merits and scholars (I believe that is what it's called) program at Ohio State. He is also waiting to hear back from Notre Dame, Penn State, and Marquette later this month. His goal is to be able to get into the JAG office after Commissioning. We were talking last night and he tells me that no matter what job he ends up doing in the military he just wants the opportunity to be the first in our family to become an Officer (both grandfathers and I are former enlisted military) talk about bringing a tear to the eye of a grumpy former Vet and Police Officer.....lol. So we wait on the edge of our seat (more so me than him) for the results of this board. Good luck to everyone and keep the board up to date with any new news:thumb:

I am curious about the "second boarder" suggestion. VERY encouraging! Was this your ROO that mentioned this paradoxer?

The enrollment officer who conducted the interview was the person who gave him this information. Also gave him grades on each part of his SAL evaluation and then explained why he thought he deserved that grade and could my son understand why he gave the grades assigned.

Another ROO said, "I'd like to give you a scholarship." Now how does one read into that? That school has campus based scholarships so we were thinking that maybe the DoDMERB papers came at the request of this school with the thinking being that if the national board doesn't choose him, they would use a scholarship on his behalf. The trouble with all of this is who really knows?!? The great thing about this forum is that others can help encourage us as we wait and see.

Lloyd,

My son also had a 24 ACT, his GPA was a 3.55 unweighted with a few AP classes. He had other stats such as Eagle Scout and Captain of his Xcountry and Track team. You didn't list other extras and sports your son has participated in.

You may have read on this board that a lot depends on which schools he listed on his application. Texas A&M is one of the popular and more competetive schools which means more applicants have listed them as their school of choice. This of course will mean that that average stats will be higher for those who are awarded scholarships there. Talk with the other schools and see how many slots they still have available and how your son stacks up to those who have listed their school. Remember that in between the boards your son can adjust or even add other schools to his list before the next board meets, now that would be the final board.

My son's test scores were the same, he was awarded a scholarship on the first board to his top 5 schools. They were in order:

University of Idaho
University of West Florida
Washington State University
University of Montana
Oregon State University

Check with each schools ROO and see how many slots are still available and he my need to adjust his school list.

My son was told by a few of the ROO's that a larger percentage of scholarships would be awarded on the second board, frankly he was a bit surprised he made the first round, most of the ROO's thought he would be a second round selection.

This is our second son to go through this process and I understand the anxious waiting game. I wish your son the best of luck and remember communication with the ROO is key.

It seems we parents are all "stalking" the ROTC site! No word for our son as well. He applied to Embry Riddle, Daytona (accepted), Rutgers (school of Eng. Accepted), Texas A & M (waiting), Valley Forge Military College (rec'd schar. but am waiting on acceptance).

Class rank is a 3.8+, Nomination from MOC to AFA but haven't gotten in yet, and Eagle, Boys State, Palm Award, fencing for 2 years....So we are still hopefull but the site still says the same thing! Hopefully something will come of it soon....We don't know if he was going to make the submission deadline of mid Dec. because it was hard to find an interviewer and only got that done in late November. The website says that he'll meet the next board but it's said that since mid December. When shoudl we hear? Soon? He is already making other plans just incase. Anyone else get into Embry Riddle?

You mean to tell me, I spend all my time helping you folks out and not one of you is interested in Clarkson or St Lawrence...my feelings are hurt:)

Best of luck to everyone. I'll be sure to sound the alarm when I start seeing the offers posted in "the system".

Clarksonarmy,

Thank you for all your helpful information you have given us. My son looked into Clarkson, we were impressed by the school and your program. You have a great blog by the way, our son was able to get a real feel for your program reading it. In the end he decided to go where his brother is a current MS3, University of Idaho. You have a great school and anyone would be lucky to attend. Good luck with the next class of cadets.
