Texas A&M

I was wondering if anyone on the forums had experience as a cadet or parent at Texas A&M. I had not really been considering the school, but I have been looking at some information on it, but I would like to know more about it. If there are any cadets or parents, PM me if you would like to.
My main questions are about life at such a large institution and how the corps is run. Thanks for your help

Folks- if you have information about life as an Aggie- don't PM it- POST IT!! You have a great tradition there and there are lots of potential Aggies who would like to hear your experiences. (sorry Tonk) gigem Aggies!

I'm going to Texas A&M in the fall. Outstanding school. I highly recommend you go for an overnight visit. If you visit aggiecorps.org you can browse units and many cadets post contact information and are very willing to answer any questions you may have.

Tonk002, my son is currently a sophomore in AROTC at A&M. They have a full time Corps of Cadets which is the largest of the six senior military colleges. They live the Corps lifestyle 24/7 as opposed to part-time at regular ROTC units at other universities. You wear your uniform to class every day along with formations and special events. They live in a specially designated area called "The Quad" on campus. They have formation for breakfast and dinner Sunday evening through Friday morning. Freshman year is VERY intense. Be prepared to be challenged mentally and physically for the entire year. The cadets run the corps with oversite from the Corps staff of active and retired military personnel. You live very sparsely your freshman year and slowly earn more and more privileges as your time progresses.

The university was founded as an all military institution and, even though the Corps now only makes up 2000 of 50,000 students, their history is the foundation of almost every tradition at A&M. There is a tremendous amount of pride in being a "Former" student. Some people joke that it is almost like being in a cult to be an Aggie. My son is the third generation to attend in our family.
