I see some posts where a nomination was to a specific academy. What does it mean when it just says "nomination to a military academy." Does that mean your kid can apply it to the one that they want to?

Nominations are academy specific. They are not interchangeable.

West Point is "The United States Military Academy". I would assume it is referring to that.

Thanks for information

Nephew's call said "Congratulations, you have received a nomination to a service academy." Email re: Press Release stated "Congratulations on your nomination to a service academy."

Will call the Senator's office and ask to which one he is nominated.

Does your nephew not know which one he applied to; or that he was interviewed for? If he applied to more than one academy, the member of congress should be able to tell him which one he nominated him for.

He only applied to one academy

Since he wants only one certain one, I am hoping that it means he got a nomination there. He does not have the official paperwork in hand, yet re: nomination.

If he is applying to West Point, the nomination will show on up on his candidate portal.

I don't think so; at least not yet.

I got my nom for USAFA in mid December and my admissions application still says I don't have one yet. I didn't get a call either...I just got a letter to my address.

They're probably sending the letter, which tells you which service academy you recieved the nomination for. It'll take several days to reach you.

A couple of reasons why it might not be on a WP portal yet:
1) Over the holidays, it might take a little longer to get these posted
or
2) the MOC has not submitted the slate to WP yet - although I can't imagine that a MOC would put out a Press Release or be sending "Congratulations' letters without submitting the slate to WP first, but it could happen.

NOTE: I am only speaking for WP. Although probably very similar, I don't how the other SAs handle their notification of nominations.

Winner

Buff81 you were right! It was on the portal for his service academy. Thanks!

So am I backwards? Letter but nothing on the application? :yllol:

I'll give 'em a week before I call and see whats up. Because it'll have been a full month next week. And yes I understand that Christmas happened, but it also happened for everyone else who's already gotten everything

Well - that's the difference between West Point and USAFA. :shake::shake:

The AFA updates weekly, and if I recall correctly it is Wednesday night that they update your on line information.

They close down the minute the AFA closes down for Xmas break and do not change anything until the AFA comes back. If next week is a month, that places you when they shut down for the break. Which means when they started to spin back up this week, they have a ton of names to input.

As far as the MOC nom is concerned, it really is multiple things.

1. For the AFA you are broken down into regions and alphabetically. You might be in the A-L from the Mid-west and it has yet to show up because they were flooded with MOCs noms for that region and a lot of A-L, however, the candidate that is M-Z in the same region may show up because there were less on the list.

2. Our DS found out 2 of his 3 noms before any letter showed up through the site. The 3rd appeared weeks after the letter

The point is it is different for everyone based purely on the MOC. They have their own staff to input the info, if they opt to do letters first and input the slate second, than the AFA will find out after you.

I wouldn't worry about it. The reality is the AFA has the nom, and if this is your 1st nom you are in queue for getting your WCS. If you already have another nom., than they will look to see if you are the highest WCS on this slate.

Remember for the AFA 75% of candidates are appointed in March.
