First, finding this forum has greatly helped to lessen my anxiety as a mother of a prospective USMA cadet.
Here is the situation for which we need advice:
My son was placed on the the NWL in early Dec. Since then , he started thinking about plan "B." He has already been accepted at 3 colleges and is waiting to hear from a 4th--all of which have excellent AROTC reputations.
Since he had been offered partial scholarships to these three colleges and had applied to USMA, he didn't think about applying for an ARTOC scholarship, but after being informed by his congressional liason that this is a very competetive year to be admitted to the class of 2015 at USMA, he applied for an AROTC scholarship.
Now, he realizes that by applying late, he may not have a shot at the AROTC scholarship, but here is the question: By applying for the AROTC scholarship, will that hurt his position on the NWL for USMA? In other words, if West Point is aware he is willing to become an army officer by an alternative route, will that lessen his chances for admission to West Point?
Thanks so much in advance for any insight anyone can offer.

No it won't hurt his chances to get into USMA. It shows he wants to serve as officer in the Army whether or not he gets into USMA - they like that.

Good luck to him and welcome to the forum!

So, should my DS let USMA admissions know he received a 4 year AROTC scholarship?? He is fully qualified for with 2 noms for USMA.
