order of process

As I read the posts from "parents in waiting" and "hopefuls" I have been trying to remember the order of the process---it might help them to know just where in the process they are ---correct me if I'm wrong.

-first the application-
-then the candidate number-
-the 3Q confirmation-
-followed by a Blue and gold officer interview
-next the interviews with representatives--
-followed by a letter of conditional appointment--
-after all that comes the nomination-
-------Then the BFE-or actual letter of appointment.

I'm sure they understand the difference in a conditional LOA and a BFE.
When we started on this ride we were clueless about where we really were and I thought there may be others out there with a checklist so to speak. I think the interviews and conditional appointments are interchangeable seems like DS got a conditional letter before he had interviews can't remember---seems like years since then --has he really only been gone 5 months!

Some may not receive a LOA and still receive an appointment.

Thanks for clarifying that. From what I understand, most who recieve appointments do not have LOAs.... does that sound right?

The BGO interview should come before the candidate receives a 3Q letter.

Depending on when the packet is submitted to USNA and when the MOCs conduct interviews, that order may be reversed. IOW, you could be doing MOC nom interviews while your packet to USNA isn't complete and/or USNA is still reviewing your packet.

The timeline is a little different for everyone depending on when they are able to get DoDMerb physical, BGO and Nomination interviews scheduled. I know someone applying this year who has already received his MOC nomination but doesn't have his DoDMERB physical until later this month.

I can tell you that my son's chronology was:

Application for NASS (February) - didn't attend NASS as didn't get chosen
Main application
DODMERB physical (end of June)
BGO interview (early July)
LoA (end of August)
MOC interviews (end of Dec, early January)
Nomination x 2 (early January)
BFE (the week after nominations notification)

Almost forgot---it is so important to get your sons physical test done asap==because the medical is so important if there is any question about medical qualification you may be running to your child's pediatrician and pulling files for when they were 2! Our pediatrician had passed away and we had to find out where the records had been moved to. Took two months to get the info to USNA. All was confirmed but DS report time on I-day was 8;30 am---he didn't get processed till almost 3pm because records were missing in his file---told us he had seen all 1199 other mids go through before he was even called back. Check and double check EVERYTHING and make copies and carry them with you !

Same for my application.
NASS (Accepted, went)
Main application with LOR from teachers done (end of June)
Cleared DoDMERB (early July)
BGO Interview (early July, submitted late July)
(It may be a coincidence, but when I finished my NROTC app, a week and half later I received LOA in October)
MOC interviews (Late November)
Senator and Congressional Nom (December)
BFE 14 December.

To answer a previous question, no, the vast majority of appointments do not have LOAs, I've been told. Dont worry if you dont get one, at this point USNA is handing out appointments because the nominations are filling in.

What about the CFA? when was this test done usually? does anyone know the earliest date it can be completed? Thanks :)

I will chime in as well cuz mine did two CFAs:

November 2008: Got in touch with BGO and sent letter to MOCs (telling them of interest in USNA)
February 2009: NASS app
March 2009: NASS acceptance
June 2009: NASS (1st CFA-passed but felt he could improve run and pull ups)
June 2009: Began application process
July 2009: DoDMERB physical
August 2009: Completed application, including all references
August 2009: MOC interviews
August 2009: BGO interview
September 2009: Redid CFA with significant improvement
October 2010: DoDMERB remediation requirement finished (had to send all medical records since age 10)
December 2009: 1st nomination
January 2010: Sent 7th semester transcripts
January 2010: 2nd and 3rd nominations
February 2010: Sent 8th semester mid-terms (from 2 college courses)
March 2010: Call from MOC and BFE

It can be completed at any time once you're an official candidate (have candidate number and access to CIS). If you go to NASS, you'll do it there, although you can submit new scores later in the year. Most candidates do the CFA in the late summer/early fall. You have until March 1 to complete it.

I should add that the above is true for USNA. Other SAs using the CFA may have a different approach.

My son was accepted to NASS and has a candidate number. Will they send info to access CIS or did we miss something along the way

Hi,

Your son should receive an official candidate package in May which will contain a CIS log in id and pw.

Thanks - My son is anxious about getting everything done on time, would hate to miss something
