I'm currently a junior in high school. I would like some information on how good my chances are for getting an NROTC scholarship at SDSU or USD. Maybe even Northwestern, or anywhere that offers it.

My over GPA right now is around a 3.0 but after this year it will move up to a 3.2, unweighted. I've taken honors everything except Algebra, and I am currently taking AP US History. Next year I will be taking AP English, AP Bio, AP US Gov, and an AP Education class. I will also take Algebra 3, and possibly a calculus class. My electives are all engineering and business, I will have two years of German by next year. When I graduate I plan on having an overall 3.4 GPA. I started wrestling this year, but already have a varsity letter. i will be a captain next year. I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu outside of school, along with kickboxing. This summer I will box and try to win a Golden Gloves tourny. I am getting a job soon. And I have 10 hours of community service, hopefully I'll have 40 by the end of Junior year and 80 by the end of Senior year. I am in the Student Y Club, Young Democrats Club, and next year I'll be an officer in Student Y. I was an officer my sophomore year in the Future Business Leaders of America and will probably be one again Senior Year. I've only taken the pre ACT and I got a 21 on it sophomore year, I plan on taking it twice this year. I'm expecting a 25-28? On my PSAT I scored higher then 76% of juniors, but I didn't know how to take it.. So when I take it again I will do much better. I plan having a Business major. I want to get through college with the Navy (or Marines) paying, continuing my Martial Arts training during my 4 years. Then taking a trip to Coronado to become a Navy SEAL. But what do you think my chances are for getting the scholarship, and when should I apply? I want to wait until after I take all my AP classes and get my GPA up senior year.

And if I haven't asked for enough already, could I have some tips on getting the scholarship? Thank you!

You probably would get a much better response if you posted your query in the ROTC section under Other Sources of Commissions. Best wishes.

Your chances are bright, provided that you prepare for these tests fully. There are certain prerequisites to applying for a Navy scholarship. You’ll find resources all over the Internet to help you find these. You also might want to visit your local veterans’ office to see what they can do for you. They might be able to offer scholarships that pay for everything except living expenses. The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps prepares college and university students to become Navy officers. Once you get admission, they pay the student’s tuition, upto $180,000. After graduation, the student is expected to commit five years as a Navy officer. To get a head start for your study in AP US History Exam you could try Shmoop. It has a lot to offer to help you increase your score. It covers all the topics and has full-length practice tests that enable you to sharpen your skills. Best of luck!
