Early Action concluded last week and while the majority of notification letters should have arrived by Saturday, January 15th, a final mailing (including both deferrals and appointments) was sent on Friday, January 14th. Applicants in that group should have received an e-mail from the Academy notifying them of the delayed mailing.

Thanks for the numbers, Objee.
DS received his letter yesterday that he is deferred to RA. He's a bit disappointed but so happy it's not a "no"! He is working on getting additional information to send up and hoping that a BFE is in his future.

How many appointees actually commit??

Hi Objee,

Maybe this has been addressed before, but of all the EA1 And EA2 appointments offered presently and using past experience from years earlier, approximately how many (percentage wise) of the EA1 and EA2 271 appointments offered by the USCGA actually commit/attend?

I would assume it is a somewhat low percentage since theoretically if all 271 accepted and conditional appointees were approved, then that would leave you with only about 20 more slots to fill for the regular admission!

Of course it must be assumed some will not attend due to unresolved medical issues, the USCGA was not their first choice, change of heart, etc. It would be interesting to know if you have any information as to what are some of the top reasons appointments are not accepted by appointees.

Thanks

We've only offered 162 appointments so far...the stats above are for both EA1 and EA2 combined. Historically, EA appointees do yield at a lower rate (70%) than RA appointees (78%), so the majority of appointments will always be offered under RA. We had 95 full appointees to the Class of 2014 decline and I would say the top three reasons given were:

1) Will attend another service academy or ROTC program (52);
2) Not ready to commit to the Academy/military lifestyle; or
3) Preferred academic major not offered at the Academy

Just Curious

Does the Academy actually ever send out Rejection letters during Early Action or is everyone else deferred if not offered an appointment?

My DS received a deferral and asked for additional information be submitted by February 1. Of those who just received their deferral letters, I guess they have also until February 1 under RA to submit additional information?

If my DS receives other awards and recognition after February 1, will the Academy still consider those?

Thank you!

@Objee: Could you share out of the 1,017 applicants under EA1 and 2 how many were deferred into RA? Thank you in advance for all the information you give to us, much appreciated.

Objee, in response to my question about EA 1, you stated that: "166 EA Group One applicants attended AIM; 55 have been appointed so far." What is the total number of EA applicants who attended AIM? (I take it that approximately 70 have been offered appointments.) I'm curious because applying for AIM is more involved than applying for the other service academies' junior summer programs and I expected that a high percentage of the 500 who attended AIM would have applied for EA. Thanks in advance.

Also, going along with the same idea, about what percentage of those who were deffered usually end up getting acceptances? Thanks.

At this time are you able to post the statistics of the Scholars Program appointees?

The statistics would really be meaningless since the number of CGAS appointments (18) is so small and represents less than 15% of the anticipated total number of CGAS appointments that will be offered this year. CGAS appointees are essentially applicants who would have been tendered appointments if their academic background/preparation was stronger, so the applicant's overall record (extracurricular achievement; leadership potential; motivation/desire to attend; etc.) is very strong but we're concerned about their ability to succeed academically during 4/c year without an additional year of academic preparation.

What is the total number of EA applicants who attended AIM?

268 EA applicants attended AIM; 70 have been appointed to 2015 and 10 have been appointed to CGAS.

Unless the AIM alumni make a very strong showing in regular admissions, it would appear that AIM attendance does not have the same value in the admissions process as it once did. I seem to recall reading on the USCGA website that about 50% of previous classes were made up of AIM attendees.

So far, 44% of the appointments have gone to AIM attendees.

I would call 80 out of 180 (44%) pretty close, wouldn't you?

And there are still some AIM attendees who may get appointed under RA, correct?

Yeah Luigi, my bad. AIM stats still pretty close. I was looking at the wrong numbers...
