Hey everyone,

My status just changed and I've been awarded a 4 year navy option scholarship to the University of Michigan! Although I love Michigan, I think I'm going to request a unit transfer to Boston University as it's my dream school.

Anyways, has anybody else heard back?

For those who haven't heard back yet- hold tight, be patient. I've been done with this application process since August and now at the end of January i've heard back. I was once incredibly discouraged, I know what i feels like. Just be patient and everything will work itself out, I promise.

Good luck to all,

Josh

Congrats to you! Univ of Michigan is my DS first choice but no answer yet. Best of luck to you!

Oh, forgot to ask... did you apply ED to Boston U? If not, you're not in yet, right? Shouldn't you wait to ask to transfer your scholarship to BU until you get into BU? As far as I know, RD applicants won't hear until 3/26 or thereabouts.

No, he should not wait. All transfer requests are automatically deferred to the waitlist until all NROTC/Marine/Nurse boards have been conducted and placed. The earlier you place your name on the waitlist, the more likely you are to move off the waitlist into the requested school.

To clarify, are you saying that this applies to all transfer requests, even those to Units that are not full?

The process you describe is what we experienced with our first child when the Unit was full (eventually opened up @ July 1), but our next child was able to transfer the scholarship to an open unit in the November/December time frame without waiting for all the boards to be conducted. Has that part of the process been changed since last year?

Well back when I was very naive about this process my goal was to finish my application by the start of the summer, get accepted in the August or October board, and apply ED to Boston University.

Obviously, things didn't really go the way I anticipated so I unfortunately could not apply ED to BU as I had originally planned. Although I haven't been accepted by BU yet, I feel as though my chances are pretty high considering I've already been accepted by University of Michigan as well as some other schools that would be considered more "selective" than BU (I think BU has close to a 50% admit rate).

Plus, as I understand, putting yourself on a waiting list does not mean you are taken off the list of the school you are currently assigned to. For example, right now I've been accepted to UMich and I've been awarded a scholarship there. While I'm on the BU waiting list, I still have Michigan to fall back on in case my spot on the list does not clear up.

Hope that helps.

Honestly, I am more than willing to help each and every applicant and/or their parents in any way possible. It would be a gross understatement if I said this process wasn't agonizing. I feel like this process has forced me to mature and become a much more patient individual. I've learned a lot during this process; not only just about NROTC.

Please, get at me, send me messages, anything.

Does the Nursing ROTC program conduct their own boards?

Congratulations jdalv2!!!! Your enthusiasm makes my day.

I feel very fortunate to have been awarded a scholarship. I can't even begin to imagine that type of competition that we are all up against. Now that I can finally take this anxiety off my mind (mind you, I've been somewhat of a nervous wreck since last June/July) I just want to be of any possible assistance to people who were in the same position as I was literally 4 hours ago.

Yes that is correct, no transfers are done until April. Everyone is deferred to the waitlist and the scholarship remains at the assigned unit until the scholarship can be transferred. The earlier a select puts their name on a waitlist, the better the chances are of moving off the waitlist into the requested unit.

My son was just accepted to Boston College (BU crosstown affiliate). We're wondering how your situation worked out. Are you on wait list? Is the unit full?
