I'm seeking info on the Naval Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program (BDCP). Son is a second semester sophomore at a top 20 school w NROTC. He has been in contact with the Detachment LC, however w a Tier III Major, and possible RIF, getting a scholarship is looking grim. A local recruiter suggested the BDCP option. I lurked around this site for a while and don't recall this option being discussed. Do others have information they're willing to share?

I'm bumping this up because I have not seen any discussion on this commissioning program- does anyone aboard this forum have any information about this program? I personally know very little about this program although my nieces boyfriend is participating right now in this program . I do know that he is drawing E4 pay while in college and will be heading to OCS this summer after graduation- beyond that I know very little. So anybody here know about this opportunity?

I'm no expert, looks like a great deal, especially since the Navy has so few ROTC schools to choose from.
It sounds a little like the Army SMP program - enlist as Enlisted and either complete the program and commission or owe Uncle Sam a couple years as Enlisted.

"Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program.Created to encourage high-quality diversity candidates to complete college and join Navy." Link

"Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program. You may apply for Officer Candidate School (OCS) up to three years before you receive your bachelor's degree. If selected, you'll be placed on active reserve duty in the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program, and receive more than $1,600 per month while completing your studies. You can earn up to $60,000 during your sophomore, junior, and senior years while receiving many benefits enjoyed by regular Navy personnel, including 30 days vacation earned each year. Following college graduation, you'll receive military training at Officer Candidate School, and earn your commission as a naval officer. You will then be assigned for training enroute to your initial fleet assignment as a surface warfare officer." Link

If you want to believe another forum, (where they are pretty into BDCP) it sounds like about 100/BDCP/slots/yr LINK
"The ONLY cons of BDCP are if you:
1) DOR during OCS, you get enlisted and sent to the Fleet.
2) Let your GPA slip below a 2.7 for more than a semester OR if you somehow got in serious trouble with the law you'd be up sh!t's creek."
