China's fighter video

Looks like the People's Liberation Air Force is writing checks that their stealth fighter program can't cash!

Or perhaps it looks so similar is because they were also in a negative 4 G inverted dive with a MIG-29 when the took the shot!

The world is suppose to believe that China is on par with the US regarding their aircraft when they cut and paste their air ability with a 1980's movie?
 
frankly as a person living in china i would not be worried about "Chinese superiority". They are an amazing people who have an extremely long history but culturally they are not ready to be world leaders. When you spend years oppressing your people in order to keep control of them it tends to give them a follower mentality. They are an economic superpower because they have a lot of people willing to work for almost nothing, and expats (my parents and my friends parents for example) running their corporations. Furthermore they cheat their results on testing scores by systematically thinning the pack every year and only letting the very best students continue to have a good education- unlike america who lets everyone from the rich white kids from new-england to the poor inner-city black kids take the tests. It is simply a different way of doing things. Now don't get me wrong I have a lot of respect for china and the chinese people. but until they change culturally they will not be a world power and they wont be able to change culturally without the government giving up its total control.

Well said...I agree with what you say. But when will that change of government happen and will it be a peaceful transition? Also, their culture of plagiarism is something unique to them and continues to cause friction with their Western partners. Their uncanny ability to produce "replicas" is a source of pride. They actually make a revenue off of it. Is that something that a democratic government can fix?

As for the video...epic facepalm. I just saw the comparison video from WSJ and my jaw pretty much dropped. I've seen examples of Chinese plagiarism before, but this one is truly outstanding. I know that the state is willing to go pretty far lengths to put itself in a favorable light (apparent faked Chinese moonwalk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBL98p0wZ7g, edited footage at the 2008 Beijing Olympics etc.) but this one...damn. I wonder how much misinformation is fed to Chinese citizens on a daily basis. The sad thing, though, is that we continue to trust them as an economic partner.
 
I completely disagree - they are very dangerous under their current path. Their lack of morality and consistent hypocrasy coupled with a thirst for technology to replace humanity (like religion - as in technology and making money to prop up their elite familys is their official 'religion').

They are just Tiananmen Square on steriods now. They remind me of the cylons in the latest BSG series, they "have a plan and the technology and will to see it through".:eek: Oh yeah, and we fund most of it directly or indirectly and a lot of their kids are now going back after college/PhDs as their opportunities are now greater there than here...

Lucky, I think we are now both showing our ages. Tiananmen Square still to this day stands vividly in my mind, what the weather was, where I was living, etc can be recalled quickly when asked where were you when you saw the tanks roll in. June, 1989, Mt Home in the kitchen, sunny weather and it was lunch time. Just like for many posters in 20+ yrs from now they will recall the crisis in Egypt that is occurring today. Certain political events will always stay in your mind. Point is for some they are too young to recall China 21 yrs ago and what they did to their people when they only see now, and not yrs past.

I do think China is willing to play fast and hard with the rules, anything to fool their people.

I do not fear them because if that is all they got when showing their air superiority, you know that they have nothing at all, and this was all about propaganda.

You know for all the talk about their technology, maybe they should find better tech people if they use a scene from a movie that is probably the most famous fighter movie in the world.:rolleyes:

Than again I guess because they have such a hard control on what their citizens see, that the techs didn't realize that passed the Great Wall, even now, every 18 yo in a free society today knows the line...I feel the need for speed! They probably thought it was a no-name movie because nobody in China got the chance to see it.
 
the amount the Chinese government has hidden from its people is truly astounding. Just some first hand examples: I have had conversations with local Chinese people in which they have told me that there are no orphans in China, No AIDS, and no gay people. The usual line is "Oh we don't have that in MY country" ... The way I see it here is that the key cultural difference is that a Chinese person does not believe that one can criticize their country and still love their country... Americans on the other hand seem to think it is almost their duty to criticize the government! This is true of most "eastern" countries. this is why the Chinese government specifically has such a large propaganda machine... if china's people find something to criticize, the Chinese government sees it as a much more serious threat to their national unity than our own government in the states. But this is also the reason why they have been able to remain one country and one people for thousands of years: a strong central government.

Haha, I would just say its stupidity and lack of judgment - China has one of the largest markets for pirated Western films.
