Additional Guidance

This is my first poll so please excuse the lack of directions in the OP. If you think the Admissions website is helpful to you, easy to navigate, or "better" than the others, please check the box. Multiple checks are allowed. You may vote for one, two, or all five. Thanks in advance for your time!

Luigi59,

If you Google "USCGA admissions" this is the link that is at the very top. I'm trying to look at all five sites through the eyes of typical high school student. My "guess" is that most people go to the first sight listed. May be wrong - just my thoughts

I can suggest another poll: Which website was the least helpful or most difficult to work?

To complicate things further, West Point is rolling out a new Admissions web site February 14!

I would think that a response depends in part on whether you've actually accessed all of the sites as well as what you knew or didn't know before you started.

And for those who think it's tough, I can only say that there once was a day when all we had were printed catalogs . . . no internet, no forums, no chat rooms, etc. Yes, the stone ages . . .

Not sure what purpose this poll will serve. As with a number of topics on here you tend to get people's bias based on where they went or were involved. I think more effective survey questions would be to list 5 or so aspects of the website you find most/least useful such as 1) Ease of navigation, 2) Updated/current information, 3) Application process, 4) Career opportunities.....etc.

Asking generically which website you like best doesn't really tell you anything. When the votes are tabulated and site X is voted best......now what???

time2,

I have reasons for asking the way I did. However, if I posted them it might ifluence the outcome. Your idea is a great one though and maybe used in a follow on poll. Thanks for the input.

Had lunch with 16 year old male who's interested in bothe USAFA and USMA. Without prompting, his statement was that "the AFA website was terrible."

USMMA- worst web site out there. they haven't updated it in about 5 years. IT guy responsible should be punted off the payroll.

bruno,

Thanks for the input. The poll will be open for another four days. I had hoped to get more than "20 some" responses. Not much of a data base there. I will talk to CAPT Johnson and his staff in Admissions when the final numbers come in.

I will also bring this up with the USAFA in April when I go to the bi-annual Falcon Foundation conference.

I have found the CGA website as the most user friendly, informative website of the five. I agree, AFA has the worst website imaginable, and I was so confused that I simply gave up on trying to navigate around everything and told my dad that I could not understand why anyone would go, or even apply, to a school that had such a substandard website.

What I like about CGA's website is that there is so much information available and has colorful pictures on every page to remind you that you could be one of those cadets next year. The biggest downside to their website is that you never stay logged in, and that almost every time you navigate to a different page on the site, you get logged out.

USNA and USMA's were also very easy to navigate once my account files were opened, but prior to my accounts, I felt like both websites were very difficult to read and did not inspire much "school spirit".

I have not spent much time on the Merchant Marine website so I cannot speak from a point of knowledge about theirs.

This is just my opinion as a current high school senior going through this process, but I felt like it might be beneficial to you to have a bit more information on how an applicant views the websites.

Check your browser settings as that is not a function of the website but your computer.

Of the five different service academy admissions websites. Which is the most helpful, or easier to follow?

USMA @ http://admissions.usma.edu/

USNA @ http://www.usna.edu/admissions/

USAFA @ http://www.academyadmissions.com/

USCGA @ http://admissions.uscga.edu/i2e/admissions/

USMMA @ http://www.usmma.edu/admissions/default.shtml

Please rate each as :thumb: or

The above URL's were picked using a popular search engine as if the user was a high school student "surfing" for academy info. Thanks.
So- what was the result of your poll? Who is the most user friendly and who is the most arcane?

I agree with Bruno, curious to know what you could conclude from such a generalized survey. Didn't see many replies to the survey.

I suppose the USMA pool should be updated?

The new website is great! So much more informative (or at least looks so, due to presentation).

I understand that this pool was closed on FEB the 15th?
