Asking for another parent :

What's appropriate attire for a female date at the USMA Spring Formal ?
What other events are associated with that weekend and is the appropriate attire ?

Thanks,

I'm not sure what "spring formal" you are referring to but if it is Yearling Winter Weekend, 500th Night, or 100th Night the only event is dinner and a hop. For Plebe Parent Weekend the only formal event is the dinner and hop on Saturday. A short or long formal dress would be appropriate for all of these.

Based on my experience PPW events include meeting the TAC and TAC NCO, seeing your cadet's room, academic open house, displays in Arvin Gym, tour the uniform factory, plebe parade, tour the Supe's quarters, self tour the cadet chapel. Generally business casual is the norm for all of these events. Most important is to wear comfortable walking shoes.

WAMom68,

The dance is sometime in March () and the cadet that sent the invitation is a plebe....hope that narrows the list of choices somewhat...any info will be appreciated by the date's mom...:thumb:

Sorry my info is so limited....snow days at our HS this week are restricting me from receiving more details ( my wife and the date's mom are both HS teachers and I was drafted to get a little more "useful" info thru this forum).

The only hop in March for plebes is Plebe-Parent Weekend. From Deb Dalton's FAQs for parents: Attire – Business casual for most events. Dinner and dance on Saturday night require more formal attire; cocktail or long dress or party pant suit; dark suit or military uniform as appropriate; cadets will be in their full-dress for the event.

Here are some pictures from the Yearling Winter Weekend that might give some dress ideas: http://www.flickr.com/photos/westpointparents/sets/72157625937006528/

Here is some info from a source that young ladies selecting attire might consider:

Please, find a dress w/ straps. It is not appropriate to be adjusting your strapless gown all night. Many top military officials attend these events and it is much better if your date's dress stays up on its own.

Some things you think you don't need to say, but apparently, you really do!

LOL! :yllol: Mom3boys, I'm so glad you said something about that because I had made some comments in my previous post that included the words "modest" and "leaving something to the imagination" but I removed them because I was about to start ranting!

As the old-fogey mother of sons, I would appreciate it if young ladies would save the wholesale display of their décolletage for a faraway beach in an island nation. Err on the side of caution and good taste and go with a classy and classic look for a hop at West Point!:thumb:

I totally agree. The young ladies should err on the side of modesty when selecting a dress for any events at West Point. They do not want to embarrass their cadet.

GreenEagle - no problem...four years later and I still have to explain these things to my husband.
