I was wondering if someone could tell me what uniforms are the midshipmen issued.... I'm not military so I have no idea so don't laugh!! ...... but when it is cold out do they issue them coats and boots.....
If anyone has pictures of the uniforms that would be great....just curious:biggrin:
Thanks,
Suzie

During the summer, they have their whites when they go into NY and for other occassions. At school, they have kakhi uniforms. For the winter, they wear the kakhi uniform and have a Peacoat that my DS says is very warm. They are issued a knit hat like a ski knit hat that pulls onto their heads and wear thier black shoes. I do know that they do have boots and they have their DBU for the winter which is their dressed blues for entering NY and other occassions. The are issued a PE uniform and sweats. Then if they play sports, they are issued thier uniforms for that sport that has to be returned at the end of the season.
They are issued covers (hats) for each uniform as well.

Back in the day, the fall/winter working uniform switched from khakis to what we called "CPOs"; navy blue pants, long sleeve shirt and gray tie. Of course one got a P coat for the working uniform and a bridge jacket for the dress blues.

Yes, the Johnny Cash's. They looked sharp, but probably around 10 yrs ago or so USMMA took their cue from the Navy and dumped them in favor of khakis year round.

There are a multitude of uniforms, most of them standard Navy, but a few are unique to USMMA (or hardly, if ever seen in the fleet)

Service Khakis - standard khaki uniform, short sleeve, wear the garrison cover
Wash/Cotton Khaki's - worn aboard ship (made of cotton so doesn't melt in a fire)
Service Dress Blues (SDB's) - called blue's, but they are really black. Standard coat and tie uniform
White's - all white uniform with open collar shirt. Hard shoulder boards, combination cover.
Dress White's (aka Choker Whites) - formal dress white uniform with coat for the ladies and the men have a coat that has a closed collar.

Coats:
Pea Coat - winter coat, heavy, makes a great pillow when folded
Ike Jacket (not sure what they call it at the academy) - black, zip up jacket, medium to light weight
Rain Coat - long trench coat style
A Jacket - (Do they still issue these?) - Letterman style jacket

All true since cmakin and I were there about the same time, that said the Navy no longer uses the "CPOs" and as such neither does USMMA. As a cost cutting measure, they no longer issue the "bridge coat" though if a USMMA Mid acquires one they may use/wear it as it is part of the US Navy Uniforms today. New a brdige coat is about $600 at least that's my understanding, I also understand they can be obtained on EBay used for an average of around $2-300.00. My son isn't all that into the regimental side of things but for some reason always wanted a Bridge Coat so he was thrilled when he found and bought one on break at the Local Salvation Army store in almost new condition for something like $20. Thats why I'm current on that specific item since this isn't a topic - uniforms - I usually know much if anything about though the recent grads on active duty of course do and can add. I must say two things on the Bridge Coat that I never thought of when I was a Midn - 1) as my son notes - they do look good; and 2) they fit better and are warmer in the winter when worn over the SDBs (Service Dress Blues - e.g. the Navy Version of a suit and tie) than if you wear a Pea Coat over the SDBs.

Geez, no one wears ties anymore, then. Hey we don't at our office (at least every day we don't) either.

Thanks Everyone!! The pictures were great! In the pictures I saw midshipmen in blue pants with lace up boots.....what is that for????
Thanks,
Suzie

Boiler Suit

You are probably looking at a boiler suit which is worn by engineers when they are in their engine lab classes. The boiler suits save the khakis from grease stains and excess wear and tear.

You will also see the occasional EMT in a dark suit, like the boiler suit.

Blue Pants

I think you were looking at Blue cargo pants with work boots .. just a PT outfit (with white tee shirt). Boiler suit covers the whole body (coveralls)

Yes, y'all are right, blue cargo pants and boots......I just couldn't understand doing "PT" in boots......but my husband and son schooled me.....(nikes not always available...LOL)!! I'm definitely in a learning curve!!!! .....and thinking too much!! .....but the blisters...ouch:eek:
