HI,
I am browsing sites at VMI, Norwich, Virginia Tech, etc. and accidentally found a calendar of college fairs for VMI. Has anyone attended one? Is this worth the 140 mile round trip to attend one in Sacramento? We really can't afford airfare to visit campuses but we are trying.

Mtnro- I have presented at several of these- they are designed to give out a fair amount of information to a group. But, personally I would not suggest that someone who is already interested and has some knowledge of the school drive multiple hours to go to one- you can get much of the same information on line from VMI and this forum. Additionally- there are Alumni in every state who are willing to speak to prospective cadets and who will be able to get you most of the same information that you would get at the fair.

Again- if the fair was less than an hour away- by all means attend- but otherwise, there are other ways to skin that cat. I would suggest that you look at the web site & open a file with the school and then consider contacting one of the Alumni listed for an interview. And if you have any questions- feel free to post here or PM me or some of the other alums, parents and cadets on the site. If you decide you are moderately serious about VMI- I would however strongly urge you to go to a visitation weekend next fall- (there are some reasonable fares you can get to Dulles Airport from SF with some advance planning). It is a place where first hand knowledge of what you are getting into is not to be underestimated. You will either walk away excited , or decide then that it's not for you.
Good luck !

Totally agree with this advice. However, especially if you are traveling across the country, it may be better to delay the trip until you know that you've been admitted. Bruno can correct me, but I think admissions decisions are rolling, so you should apply early to give yourself as much time as possible to make decisions.
