I am taking DS to get fitted for his running shoes. I was told to bring the type of socks that he will be wearing during Beast. One posting listed packing white crew socks. Will the NC's be issued socks or can they pack their own white socks to wear at Beast?

Bring extra.....(I sent 5 pair)...underwear & t-shirts too........no visible logos.

My son's CBT company did not allow any underwear except the issued white briefs until several weeks in.

See......thats the thing. All the companies handle things differently (like the fans this past summer......some could get them sooner than others). Have them ready just in case:thumb:

I had to ckeck with my DS on this one. He said.......if they don't see what you wear, its not an issue. Chafing is a MAJOR problem during Beast and tidy whities do nothing to help. Compression shorts rule .......he took 5 pair and blacked out the logo.

I hope this helps.

I was responding to your comment about underwear. My cadet took plenty of compression shorts. However, I would hesitate to tell someone to take lots of underwear, such as boxers, only to be told to leave them in their personal bag that will be stored until A-Day. I think most companies were fine with compression shorts.

Not trying to be rude, but I really don't know. I thought chaffing was for overweight people, when their legs rub together

I was 2 pounds away from having to get a waiver to enlist two years ago for being underweight, and I stilll find it more comfortable to wear spandex or compression shorts...so no, its not just overweight people!

Its way more comfortable to be wearing compression shorts and running. I play soccer, and its just easier to train while wearing them.

I hate tidy whites is basic the only time we have to wear them? Can they be replaced with white boxers after A-day?

or whatever color boxers your heart desires. It's not like anyone's going to be inspecting...

My son's CBT company allowed them purchase boxers at the C-store but it was well up into Beast, but compression shorts were fine. Each company is different!

Chafing happens to everyone. Most people don't experience it before Beast because they haven't been involved with the same frequency, intensity, and type of physical activity for an extended period of time. Trust me, chafing sucks and you need to do what you can to prevent it.

As others have already mentioned, each company is different. Our son packed a few pair of compression shorts for R-Day and asked us to send more in his first letter home. On average, we sent him a package every other week with more socks, and a few more pair of compression shorts (plus other odds and ends.)

We opted to buy the less expensive brand from Target (no logo to worry about) ... plus there's always the chance you might not get them back in laundry.

Socks and undies, while they have their place in this life of ours, will not make or break anyone's Beast experience.

Worry less. That's my advice.

Underwear & Mail

Has anyone tried white boxer/briefs? They are the same cloth material as tidy whities briefs, but made like boxers because they extend down the legs. If anyone knows how this type of underwear worked out, please let me know. That's all I've worn for the past several years. Also, do cadets receive regular mail during Beast or just mail periodically (say...once a week)?

Just a suggestion - compression shorts should never be sent out in the laundry.
All laundry basically is boiled and they will get ruined. It's probably better to take a couple of pair and wash them out in the sink in the room.
This applies to sports bras as well.

JAM - I chuckled when I read this ... told DS many times to do exactly what you said. He insisted on putting them in with laundry. I don't think it's that big a deal to wash them out in the sink, but hey ... I'm just Mom so what do I know, right?!
