In the instructions to appointees it states: “In mid-March, cadet candidates will be able to download and print a letter from the “2nd Admissible” on the candidate portal authorizing the purchase of one pair of boots, one pair of low quarters (no patent leather),

I’m curious if anyone knows what types boots/shoes are or will be allowed for Beast this summer, or specifically NOT allowed, particularly brand names and models. I understand the value of breaking in your shoes and feet, and I have a pair of Belleville 390 DES that I wear now and I like them but I don’t know if they are acceptable for USMA this year, or if others have recommendations.

I typically use Bates for low-quarters, but I’m open to other thoughts along those lines, too.

Thank you

As far as boots go, Belleville 390DES have been allowed in past years, so you should be ok with those. Just to be safe though, I'd wait for the boot letter. I'm 99% sure you won't be allowed to use Nike or Oakley boots during Beast (historically speaking). During the academic year you can wear them though as long as they are the proper height and fit uniform standards.

Bates low quarters are the ones that are available at the West Point PX and they have been historically allowed in past years for beast. Don't take my word for it; wait for the boot letter because they could change stuff up. I believe that would be highly unlikely though.

Make sure that when you buy low quarters they arent the chlorophram type. you need to be able to polish your low quarters.

Words on the street from a credible source is that they are considering issuing Nike Boots to New Cadets because of all the problems 2014 had during our Beast.

I wouldn't be surprised if what 2015 is allowed to wear is different than what 2014 was allowed to wear.

 New year, same story. Junior and Susie got sore feet. Imagine that...

It's hard to believe that New Cadets ever survived with regular black hard-sole combat boots. We should all thank heavens we're not hobbling around on bloody stumps after having to march in simple black boots...

For the record, as an owner of several pairs thanks to work, the Nike boots will not protect feet any better. They're actually not great boots from a marching standpoint.

Indeed scout, I am surprised that my favorite boots to march in are still the DSCP standard issue ones from basic. They simply are the best fitting pair I have, but that could be my own fault too :shake:
