Hi all,

I discussed this a little bit in a previous thread, but I wanted to advertise it again to all the new appointees. I am trying to work with admissions to get a small orientation for appointees at the end of April (24-26, Sunday night to Tuesday afternoon). Unlike previous years, depending on the level of cooperation from admissions, will require much more involvement from parents and appointees. I will do my best to put together a good schedule of events for everyone, but it will be much more informal than usual. Let me know if you are interested and if this a good weekend before I go talk to admissions this week.

Later,

Brian

Also, I forgot to mention. If there are any 4 deg's out there that wouldn't mind escorting for a day let me know as well.

Hey Brian - thanks for taking charge of this! I'm sure my son would be willing to escort since he's done several already this year, but I'll ask him when he gets back from the weekend and let you know!

I am very interested and will make time for any weekend.

I hate to get ahead of myself, but if everything works out and I get an appointment I would be very interested in doing something like this.

This is all based on the dangerous assumption that you make it to the end of April.

Were you wanting to volunteer or just post useless words in the middle of an important discussion?

I'm definitely interested if I get an appointment. That weekend is a little tight, but flying there Sunday could work.

I completely understand, but I also know that there is no way that I can work with everyone's schedule especially if there are a good amount of people coming. I am pretty sure that I will be committing to that weekend pending admissions approval with a sign up deadline of April 14th.

lol, just realized that is Easter weekend. I should probably move it back one week.

Sounds great, and that's a comfortable deadline too. Don't fit my schedule, I'll work to fit yours :thumb:

orientation

I'd like to volunteer to tour an appointee, just give me the details when you find out.

For all cadets wanting to volunteer for escorting, please send me a PM with you USAFA email and I will start coordinating with you.

Also, I remember having a great time at the Academy hotel last year just hanging out in the pool while all the parents chatted in the lobby. If people will commit to staying there, I believe I can get about $60 a night.

Hi Brian, Thanks for taking this on. It was a very worth while exprience last year. Tyler, for sure would be interested in being involved in helping those 2015'ers. I know that he was looking forward to escorting this year.

Hey,

Could one of you 2015 appointees give me the date listed on your appointment that you have to accept or reject your appointment (I believe there is a date that you have to make the decision to take the appointment or not)?

Brian

the appointment letter states
"please accept or decline this offer by completing and returning the enclosed form as soon as you decide. Our deadline is May 1, 2011."

also, be aware that the AP exam schedule starts Monday, May 2nd and lasts for 2weeks. i believe it is the same schedule for all kids all over the country.

our son would be interested but it depends on what weekend you choose to start on as we have a big trip to hawaii planned for spring break and he is taking 4 AP exams that he needs to prepare for.

i think this is a great idea though!:thumb:
