Anyone know how many appointments have been made already? Everytime I look at list of names, I wonder. As a candidate's mom....I'm feeling hopeful still but edgy. I'm pretty sure that nobody could possibly know this............

Many appointments come in March and some after that. Hard as it is to wait, don't give up hope yet.

mamrun, go to last year thread "who is still waiting" and begin reading postings starting around mid to late February to get a better understanding of the waiting anxiety that may go through mid to late April. It is a good read and provides insight into the next few weeks.

For the vast majority, the story'll be in its final chapter over the next 4 weeks. Good luck, pray hard if you've a heart to do so, hope eternally.

Thanks....I'm praying just as fast as I can. And glad WhistlePig that I didn't tick you off with my question :)

Thanks for this idea....I'm trying to figure out how to do that. Guess that'll keep me busy :) Obliged.

USNA is committed to letting everyone know his/her status by April 15. MOST (please understand this means what it says -- most, NOT all) candidates who will receive an appointment will get the good news by the end of March. If April 1st comes and you haven't received a BFE (an appointment) and aren't awaiting a medical clearance, chances are better at that point that you will be rejected or waitlisted. Just being honest.

That said, there are still MANY candidates who will receive appointments in March. And, as noted, some will still receive appointments in April and, if WLed, maybe even after that.

I understand USNA is on rolling admissions. But, I also understand that they have to have X number of appointees from each district/state/ etc... That said wouldn't they want the best candidate from each area. Next, wouldnt that want to wait for ALL the candidate's applications from each district to 100% complete their application? Then, wouldn't my decision, supposing I turned in my completed app in november, have to wait til everyone from my area to turn theirs in? Maybe I'm thinking too much into this, but... Im waiting on my decision and all I CAN do is think. I completed my application at the beginning of Feb. but I was just wondering if (supposing everyone in my district hasnt turned in their app) I have to wait for them?? Does that make ANY sense at all ? lol

It's a bit more complicated. The rolling admissions concept means that, the earlier you submit your application, the earlier the Board can determine if you're scholastically qualified. That is essential for obtaining an appointment. If you have a Pres nom or your MOC turns in his/her slate early, USNA CAN offer you an appointment earlier in the process.

However, most candidates can't be offered an appointment until USNA has the MOC slates so they know who has noms. The USNA application (other than CFA) must be complete by Jan. 31 and MOC slates are due the same day. So, you're really waiting for the MOCs; there shouldn't be extra "waiting."

Yes, USNA wants the best from each region. But there are often multiple well-qualified candidates from the same geographic area and often some or all of these will be offered appointments.

Hope this answers your questions.

pieterm: USNA does want to get the best candidates from each district. If you search through this forum, I believe that you will find a number of posts from previous years that show that USNA does wait until the nominees from a given district complete their application packages before they make their number one selection (most MOCs do not rank their slates of nominees). The remaining nominees from that MOC's slate then must be compared to the rest of the "national pool" to determine whether they also receive an appointment.

Just remember, there are plenty of things to do while you wait:
- Have fun (and stay out of trouble) for the rest of the school year
- Get into top shape. Plebe Summer is much "easier" if you're not the one falling behind during runs, etc. Even if you don't get an appointment, you'll be healthier.

USNA1985, I didn't realize that there was a different date for the CFA. By what date did it have to be completed?

March 1, if memory serves. However, it's not wise to submit that late unless you are in terrible shape.

Thanks usna 1985 and 2012mom! I was completely applied feb 15th so... just playing the waiting game. Ill do my best to enjoy my senior year, but it would be so much easier if I knew my status.

In the same boat with you. For some reason I was under the impression I would receive my letter of acceptance/rejected within 6 weeks of my complete file(this is week 5). It's killin' me.

What should we be doing now? Staying in shape, trying to be positive...is there anything else we could possibly to do help ourselves?

There are some who had their files complete by September 1....some even earlier......and they are waiting it out, same as y'all.....

One other thing to do while you wait: Get that Plan B firmed up. Maybe Plan C or D if necessary as well.

Good luck! Time drags now, then the next thing you know you will be waiting for I-Day, which seems soooo far off. THen your parents are waiting for the first phone call three weeks into plebe summer. A very long three weeks. Then the next phone call, then Plebe Parent Weekend. You get the picture.

Even if your destiny is other than USNA, for the next few years you will find yourself waiting on something college related over and over.
