I'm currently starting my application for both west point and AROTC and wondering if anyone can offer a little clarification. I was under the impression that army ROTC scholarships pay for full tuition, but not room and board necessarily. Then, I read this on Columbia's ROTC website:

"Contracted Cadets receive between $250 to $400 per month in stipends. Scholarships of up to $17,000 per year are also available to incoming and current students to assist in defraying the cost of a Columbia education."

Is this the normal amount for AROTC scholarships? Do some colleges offer more? Is it possible to apply for both Army and Navy ROTC scholarships, seeing as the Navy offers more money?

I appreciate any responses!

scholarship amounts vary by branch, many schools offer room and board, you'll have to check with each school. Apply for every scholarship you can, arotc, AFrotc, NROTC, fafsa, cast a wide net and you're sure to catch something!

The stipend amount you looks to be the Navy or Air Force. The Army Stipend starts at 300.00 and goes to 500.00. I'm not sure what the 17,000.00 amount is for. The Army Scholarship has been for full tuition.

That being said I was reading my son's AROTC batallion website today. I looked at the scholarship section. They have changed their wording just recently to say:

"Scholarships are an annual established amount towards tuition"

It has always read "Full Tuition" before, I'm not sure what the change in wording means. There may be changes comming that we do not know yet.

I think Cstevens asked specifically about AROTC scholarship amounts. Columbia's information is about 5 years out of date. This is probably due to the fact that they don't have an ROTC program on campus, and probably won't any time soon.

Army ROTC scholarships pay all tuition and fees, or room and board if it is higher than tuition. Some schools like Clarkson and St Lawrence provide room and board for their 4 year scholarship winners. Along with the tuition scholarship winners receive $1200 a year for books, and a monthly stipend that starts at $300 a month for freshmen and goes up to $500 a month for seniors. Hope that helps.
