Has anyone gotten a status update/scholarship award/rejection for the Marine Option NROTC scholarship? It seems like there is alot more information within the Army threads.

Congrats to everyone that has received good news!

I talked to a MO NROTC Capt on Friday (3/4/11) who sat on the last selection Board (Feb) in the 4th Marine District (D.C., Maryland, Virginia etc) and he said that the last Board was last week and all the selections are made by the districts and those are at Pensacola but that the selections are not yet official. Selections will become official and announced in the next two weeks, maybe next week. He also said it was extremely competitive. In the 4th District there were 260 applications for 40 slots. Hang on.

I applied for the NROTC Marine Corps option back in November... I haven't heard anything. I'm from NY 25.

Thanks for the information. I guess we'll just sit back and wait a bit longer. My son applied in November and January. No word yet. Good luck to all!

NROTC

Hey AmryStrong... My son applied for NROTC with Marine Corps Option at the 2/25, NY... Wondering when and where posting of successful candidates will appear?

Thanks.

Yes, D'S received his notification in December and has been applied to the Vanderbilt unit. Good luck to you all.

NROTC Marine Corps Option

Recieved word that last postings will take place between 14 March - 10 April.. hope this is correct. If anyone knows different, please post. Application and PFT were taken and completed on 9 February at 2/25, NY. Son had already been accepted to The Cidatel... waiting and wondering. Was here 4+ years ago when daughter was waiting word of DODMERB waiver. She is now graduating from USNA this May and being commissioned Ensign USN. Hope her brother has same type of good fortune.

Good luck to your son, Marine0311. My DS is also applying for MO NROTC and has also been accepted at the Citadel (and VMI, Norwich and Texas A&M). Like you, waiting for the decision. Congrats on your DD's achievement. We are also waiting for a decision from the USNA, where DS is 3Q with a nom.

The Marine NROTC and AROTC boards are going to start costing me money. If we do not hear soon, I am going to have to send non-refundable money to the top 3 choices to hold DS spot. I say top 3, because he did not apply to the bottom 2, he only chose them because he was forced by the online app. He would not go to either regardless.

I hear you, ProudCitadelDad! We are holding off on sending our deposits to the 5 schools, also. They have been emailing and calling asking if we are attending, but I don't have an answer for them! We've already dropped a chunk of change in college application fees and remittance of test scores.

I will say, the most costly thing to date is my gray hair...I told my son I was going to start deducting money from his bank account for the trips to the salon! This has been a stressful time for sure.

I hear you on that. The Citadel is quite insistent on that score, but has not yet said do it or else. May 1 is the date for them and everyone else. Do sent in, however, the med. forms. Citadel says the $300 is refundable if you ask for it back before May 1. Likewise the other schools my DS has applied to.
BTW, your DS is taking a risk and not naming 5 schools. Roughly half the MO NROTC slots were awarded in the early Boards -- those applicants probably got their 1st or 2d choices. Depending on the rank order, some successful applicants most certainly will be remitted to their number 5 choice.... Anyway, good luck to you.

GO CITADEL! I have also been accepted and am waiting to hear from my MO NROTC scholarship. Good luck to us all! I look forward to meeting everyone early august. Is there a way I can find out "unofficially?" hahaha :thumb:

NROTC Postings

10 April? That sounds pretty late. How reliable is your source?

DS talked to and was advised by his own source. So far the latter has come thru with good info. I thought that was late date also. Though I know some waitlisted candidates that are appointed to SAs as late as 1 June. I'm not so intune with NROTC. At the 2/25 the X/O has, or will not let on he has any info until just before the boards are posted. So hurry and wait... the old military axiom.

By chance has anyone heard anything yet on their Marine ROTC scholarship results?

Still waiting here. Recruiter said we should know by 3/15 - which is tomorrow! I have my doubts. We've been told several different dates since last November and we still don't know anything.

We are very very anxious around here. If no scholarship, then my son will go with the Marine Reserves - ship date of 5/23. Two days after his HS graduation. He'll be in bootcamp/training for 8 months, so will more than likely miss his 1st year of college. I'm not happy with that option, but he is insistent. He's got such great momentum right now with his tough academic load - I hate for him to miss his first year of college. Not to mention the 7 colleges he's been accepted to - for FALL 2011. We'll have to start over at square one with the college applications.

I'm trying to stay hopeful, but this waiting is tough.

Good luck to all!

I'm on the same exact route as your son, this scholarship is my key to whether or not I go to college this fall or not. Hopefully tomorrow we'll find out! Good luck!

Good luck to you, Cowboys.

The waiting is tough, but you kids are resilient and good things will come your way - with or without a scholarship. It seems late in the year to not have a definitive plan. It is hard when all your classmates know exactly where they're going and you have no idea until the results come out. Obviously, this is our first foray into the military world!

Best of luck to all the applicants.

Has your son thought about the Platoon Leadership Course for the Marine Corps.

There are opportunities for tuition assistance and the result is the same, a commission to 2nd LT, and no need to miss the first year of college. The PLC program commissions the highest number of Marine Corps Officers.
