Can DoDMERB Keep Me From Getting an Appointment?

Hello again everyone,

My DoDMERB has been difficult completing because I currently reside in Canada. I have submitted my forms, but learned today that I need remedial eye examinations. Will not having been cleared by DoDMERB keep me from being considered for an appointment?

Yes. You can't be offered an appointment until you are medically qualified. If you're having issues, consult Larry Mullen. His contact info is on the DODMERB forum on this site. He can help you.

One of my sons says he has a roommate who is color blind. They told him aviation is not an option for him.

Your BGO is misinformed. Roughly 2% of each entering class can be color blind. However, your career options are quite limited and it's my understanding that entering color-blind plebes will be asked to sign something to the effect that they understand and accept these limitations.

Also, it's possible that someone who is color blind could have other eye-related conditions that would disqualify him/her. Finally, the number of color-blind persons who can enter each class is VERY limited, so if you're color blind, your odds are reduced over someone who isn't color blind.

As far as I know, I'm a perfectly healthy male student, it's just been a hassle getting my medical completed because I'm in Canada and got my medical completed by a private physician. Getting the issue resolved today
