My DD just received a type 2 AFROTC scholarship. Now she has to wait to see what schools she gets into. Should she contact each detachment at each school before she knows if she has been accepted yet?

First of all, congratulations to your daughter. It is always a good idea to contact the detachment. They know the ins and outs of the admissions and finacial aid offices. If they can't answer your question, they will assist you in finding the answer. They may also be able to help with admissions since she has a scholarship in hand.

Thanks for the information. She just received an email from the University of Virginia offering a "shadow" day. She will shadow an ROTC person from PT in the morning to attending their classes during the day. Sounds like a great opportunity and it is during her spring break so it is a win-win!

Dad hit the nail right on the head.

Good luck,

Congrats!! Definitely break the ice with the ROTC unit (you may get a "why didn't you contact me sooner?" response). It may be too late, though, for the award of a scholarship to affect admissions decisions (schools are at the point of polishing their lists at this point).

You also want to do it because dets are like colleges, each has its own unique feel. You may have done the college tours loved both of them equally, but when you visit the det., one may feel like the perfect fit and that will make your decision making process easier.

I know you are waiting for their decisions from admissions, but I am taking it that you will get both, you would than still come to the answer visit the dets. Might as well get a feel now.
