While at the Academy, do Cadets change companies each year? For example, will a cadet be in B-3 his/her Plebe year and then A-4 during his/her second year?

They change companies after Yearling year.

This can change from class to class. Class of 2011 were scrambled after plebe year and that was it.

The former BTO told us in January that both the current yuks and current plebes will scramble into new companies going into their respective cow years (with the exception of the plebes who scramble into the new I companies).

This is what the current word is from our son who is a plebe. However, in a conversation with his TAC, this past weekend at Plebe Parent weekend, "there is a chance that the class of 2014 will not be scrambled."

Seems like one of those things that you just have to wait and see.

However, next year they are bringing back I companies, so cadets from every class will be scrambling into i companies. They took volunteers for it- still waiting to hear if I got into my reg's. Those cadets who scramble in as yuks will not scramble again.

The United States Corps of Cadets is a Brigade
The Brigade is divided into 4 Regiments, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
Each Regiment (right now) has 8 Companies, A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H

Adding an 'I Company' means that each Regiment would have 9 companies, A though I.

Also, each Regiment is divided into 2 Battalions - 1st and 2nd. Right now, Companies A-D are in the 1st Battalion and Companies E-H are in the 2nd Battalion. Not sure how that will divide up with an I Company added. Maybe an Old Grad can chime in and tell how it was done when there were I Companies in the past.

If you ask a cadet what company they are in and they say, C-2, then that means they are in C company of the 2nd Regiment.

Or a current cadet!
Thanks AF :thumb:

Way back in the way back, when I companies existed, that's how it worked. 3 BNs per regiment.

It has the effect of pulling more cadets out of their companies for staff jobs at the BN level, as each Reg must have three BN staffs. Whereas it used to be 4 companies filling a BN staff, it'll now be three companies giving up people to staff.

If you know where to look around the barracks, you can still find trunkrooms with I company logos painted in them.

Way back in the way back - what was the nickname of the I Company?
Will it be the same when the I Company is brought back next year?

I know one was Icehouse or something like that...their mascot was a penguin. Can't recall any others.

I-1 was "I-Beam" when I was there. I'll ask my husband since I'm sure he'll remember some of the others.

Okay, best we could remember (and being too lazy to actually pull out a yearbook  ), my husband insists I-4 was I-Beam. I'm sure that I-1 was I-Beam at some point as well, and remember them making a big deal out of switching to I-roc, which I never actually understood. I-3 was Polar Bears, but neither of us can remember I-2. Sorry!

OK - I pulled myself away from watching Ghostbusters (Goatbusters was the theme when we beat Navy in 1984!) and found a Howitzer. I-2 - The Moose is Loose! How could I not remember that!

And as I was in H-4 (Go Hogs!) as an upperclass I-4 was our next door rival. Their mascot was the I-Beam and they had an actual large and quite heavy I-Beam. I was the water safety officer for our spirit mission that put in on the bottom of pool in the deep end!
