I have been watching the boards but have not seen any North Carolina appointments. Both my congressman and Senator have no insight as of yet. Anybody see or hear of a USNA appointment in NC. By the way both offices say it has been extremely competitve.

I just looked at the 2015 thread and there were only 5 NC appointments. Neither of my teammates have heard anything. Which district are you?

NC appointments posted on forum

These are the five that have been posted by appointees, family and friends from the post above. We are aware of at least one more with an appointment, a recruited wrestler. The numbers over the past few years seem to be around 25-30 total from various sources of nomination. Not every candidate is aware of or uses this forum so it would be difficult to say how many more have or have not heard yet. Senator Hagan's website had a listing of nominees. During interview process Senator Hagan's staff told DS that approximately 250 qualified applicants were being evaluated. Not sure if that meant for all or each academy.

Yep, I get my BFE!! I'm from district 7, Mike McIntyre's area. From what I was told by his Affine, he had 2 slots available with more than 10 candidate... Guess I was one of the lucky ones. Good luck to the rest still waiting, there is still time!

So as far as I can see, there is only one appointee from CT oh here so far? I'm still waiting

NC Appointments mostly athletes?

So it looks like NC provides the USNA wrestlers and other athletes? Jtoye has other team members waiting, and jrope has another team member, so is it safe to say, that most of the NC Appointments go to athletes and there can be several appointments given to one team?

My friend and I from Havelock do athletics together on several teams. However, neither of us are recruited athletes. I know several wrestlers from NC who have been recruited by Navy. 1 will be entering with 2015 while the other 2 will attend NAPS and join 2016.

Where did this come from? I know of several former, and current MIDS from NC that were not athletes In fact there are 5 from one high school not one an athlete

I don't think the intent of the previous posts were to imply recruited athlete status, simply put these candidates know each other from extacurricular activities and sports. Most candidates, I think the class profiles for the last few years indicate about 95%, have a varsity letter as part of their resume. A significant number are also captains of varsity teams. Some of these guys and gals come from schools where there are several applicants each year and some come from schools where the level of interest is lower.

The fact that multiple candidates come from the same school or even the same team says something, in my mind, about the company they keep and the competitive nature of the individuals. In other words, something good is resulting from their involvement with the extracurriculars they are engaged in. It could also be that they have the benefit of good preparation and advice from an exceptional BGO, coach, or counselor. Regardless, very proud of all those who will be representing NC come June 30th. :thumb:

WHOA!

Post was positive about so many athletes from NC. Nothing negative intended, and this was looking at this year only. How do they work 5 members of one team, and each getting a nomination....5 nominations from one area? That would seem tough, but maybe not. NC does have some good athletic programs!

Amen

Yes, we do have some great kids from NC. Very proud of those we know of taking this path. Best of luck to your nephew

My son received an appointment to the USNA on March 15th. He received a phone call from our congressman one night and the packet arrived the next day. He's awaiting his first choice of an USAFA appointment, but excited either way. (Hickory, NC)

Athletes

I meant recruited athletes, also, as nephew's girlfriend began getting letters from USNA in August, but she had no desire to attend a MA and had never approached the USNA. Some of the newspaper articles that have announced appointments have stated that appointee would be on such and such team. It does appear that many who have received appointments from NC are not on this forum.

Again, not negative, this is good, for no matter HOW you get there, it is an honor to attend, and you have worked hard whether you are a recruited athlete or not.

Hoping to see more NC plebes! Good luck!

Presentation of Appointments

Well, time for the latest update. DS and classmate were presented appointments last night at Academic Awards Ceremony. Another classmate received NROTC Marine Option scholarship. Proud Marine dads in the audience. Big oohs and aahs when the big check was presented. Bigger oohs and aahs when the value of the USNA appointment was stated. BGO was awesome to drive up a pretty good distance to make presentation. He has been a great supporter for DS and friend. Hope the gouge repeated is accurate, he said over 19,000 applicants for just over 1200 appointments. 35 appointments in NC. Our school was only one fortunate enough to have more than one. That one really impressed the audience and hopefully school administrators. DS has been fortunate to have wonderful teachers and coaches along the way to support and sometimes push to excel in all areas. I-Day just around the corner.

The gouge was the same as that presented at son's awards ceremony in Texas. We'll see you on the 30th :shake:
