Just talked to the Sergeant at VMI. He just got today (3/23) the Form 61 from MCRC and now knows who got the scholarships for his school! You may be able to call each of your schools and ask.
Still havent heard anything in TX, left a message for some MOIs though, we'll see what happens.
I also want to know
Sorry to hear that.... Did you find out through the NROTC application status portal? DS still says the same thing it has said for MONTHS! No decision has been reached.....
It is a shame that the Recruiting Station could not have called your DS first.
GoinBroke,
I am sorry to hear your news and understand the emotions.
While you want to understand the reason, the criteria, circumstances, and luck that determine the selection process are probably way beyond rational explaination.
After some time goes by where you both will go through all the steps of the grief process, your son should look at his options. There are alternate ways to become a Marine Officer and there are other ways to serve your country. He should also make sure to participate in our country's democratic process so his voice is heard.
For all of you who find yourself in this situation, I want to thank you for making the effort to join our country's military and serve your country. You are a select group of people who have the capacity to make in a difference in this world and I wish you every success.
Thank you for that wonderful message, USMCGrunt. I have said this many times, but there is so much that goes into these decisions that have little to do with credentials of a candidate. The only way to mitigate these risks is to cast your net as broadly as possible. Fate will guide you to the candidate's "spot in life".
The Class of 2016 needs to know that they can have perfect scores but other factors come into play that neutralize these things. Overall, I think it is a good system and the objectives of NROTC are noble. (this is just IMHO, and I know others will disagree with me).
I also totally agree that folks should nevertheless keep driving on toward their ultimate goal. If folks really want to be a Marine Corps officer, pursue that path relentlessly because things have a way of working out in the end. I wouldn't blame the government in this instance, though.
As for my DS, his status for NROTC (non-MO) hasn't changed since forever. He is expecting the TWE any day now, but has other options because he tossed out a wide net at the start of this process.

Patentesq: I wish your son the best of luck, certainly more luck than my DS got in this process. My DS will be fine -- we claim no entitlement to either the USNA appointment that he didn't get or the MO ROTC scholarship he didn't get. I am going to say that this whole selection process, with the suggestions of unstated selection criteria, has left a real sour taste in my mouth. I am hardly naive, but I am saddened and disappointed.
Still haven't heard a single thing here... this is getting really old.
I'm just completely lost on how this process works, and have no idea on the status of this scholarship, it seems that almost everyone else is getting a notification of some sort, but I still haven't got any word whatsoever. So I mean at this point I'm assuming they "forgot" about me
