Yep. Status changed. Have you guys filled out the form yet? My DS completed the acceptance and I told him I would not mail it until the end of the week. I thought he should be 100% sure and never have any second thoughts about it, especially since he has really good second options and he will need to be certain of his choice when he is in the middle of his first year of being a Doolie getting his backside whupped. Hopefully I am not off in the weeds about this, I just want him to be certain (his response to me was he has wanted this since he was old enough to walk - but I am holding the mail anyway).

FWIW: It's not a contract. You can accept it, fill out and sign the form, send it in, and then; the day before getting on the plane change your mind. You don't even have to call anyone. Simply; don't show up.

I think this would show a lack of integrity and respect to all the other applicants; but it's important to know that you have until the day you leave to change your mind. Even though my son accepted his appointment in November; we STILL PAID for spots at his other accepted colleges. Between November and June, he could change his mind; break his leg; get his girlfriend pregnant; get stupid and FAIL a class because he thought he didn't have to try; etc.... Point is; you aren't FORCED to go to the academy because you accepted the appointment. Just like you have 2 FULL YEARS at the academy, that at any time, you can simply say: "This isn't for me. I quit". No harm; no foul. It's important to know the rules. No one debate me on whether it's honorable or not. That's not what my comments are about. It's about KNOWING THE RULES! Your son can accept the appointment today and change his mind at any time.

mine just changed too! this is awesome! congrats to EVERYONE!!! and i mean EVERYONE!!! just to get this far you regardless of whether you are offered an appointment or not you must be amazing, my hat goes off to everyone! can you tell the excitement hasent worn off yet?? :yllol:

falconfamily... we talked about it last night...my daughter assured me that this is what she wants, and that there is no way she would come this far and then not go through with her plans. I let her know that she needs to do it for herself, and not think that "everyone expects her to go now so she has to". She folded the signed acceptance, put it in the envelope, and sealed it  I think it is great that you are giving your son time to make sure this is what is right for him.

Chirstcorp...thank you so much for that info...not sure a lot of people realize that.

Falconfamily

Your son has made his choice, but I am not sure you have made yours, let go.

I suspected that would be the case, that the acceptance is not a contract. But I agree with you about integrity and respect (or lack of) to the other applicants for those who do not honor their commitment. Parenting 101 demands that my DS NEVER do that, EVER. People must honor their commitments.

There are always some

Last year a girl got on the bus I-day and did not get off. Can you imagine.

Scaper : I agree that there is a transition that parents have to make when their kids become adults. I guess this transition is happening faster than I anticipated and kind of caught me by surprise.

As for the girl who stayed on the bus. She seems to me like someone who needed to think the decision through a bit more before she accepted the appointment.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

falcon family - i agree with Scraper. put the acceptance in the mail. your child just made their first adult decision. Its time to start learning to let go. Beleive me i understand how hard it is.

as for the girl on the bus. i actually have a different take. she made a decision; realized she made a mistake and took action to correct it quickly. first adult lesson.

OR..... Her parent(s) talked her into it. That she never really wanted to do it. But she did make her FIRST ADULT DECISION!

Trust me; there's definitely some at the academy who are asked specifically why they are there. (Usually after some trouble, poor performance in BCT or ACPRO "Academic Probation") and they freely say: "I really didn't want to come here. My parents wanted me to come here". Either way; it's good for the young lady to change her mind when she did. At least she still had time to get another college lined up.

Holy Cow! He made it!!!!

Thanks for the idea to check for a status change!! My DS checked the mail today...and nothing. So I checked and IT CHANGED! I haven't been able to get ahold of him yet, can't wait to tell him the good news.

Wahoo!:

My son's did. BFE yesterday and status change today.

Congrats to all. And NOW you have learned the 1st rule of the military.

1. HURRY UP AND WAIT!!!
