I am currently a junior and have recently picked my class schedule for next year. I understand that the Academy will look at the rigor of my class schedule and also look at which classes I take compared to what my school offers.

But will they see that due to conflicting schedules I was not able to take certain classes? For example at my school Physics and AP Chem are offered the same period forcing me to choose one, when I would like to take both. And will they take note that my school doesn't offer as many AP classes that other candidates were able to take? ( like AP Computer Science/AP Physics/ AP Caculus BC)

I will graduate with taking 7 out of the 9 AP classes my school offers, and 2 are classes that have just been introduced not allowing me to take them.

I just want to make sure I am not at a disadvantage due to what my school offers.

One thing the guidance counselor at your school will have to submit along with your jr. year transcript is a school profile, which should list AP courses available--the AFA won't hold it against you if your school doesn't offer as many AP classes as others do. But if you've taken 7 out of 9 AP classes, I don't think you have to worry. Concerning Physics or AP Chemistry, if you haven't taken any classes of one but maybe the Intro/Honors class of the other, I would take the one you have no experience with at all. Just my opinion!

Have you taken any college prep level physics/chemistry?

I have only taken regular Chem and am signed up to take AP Chem next year. At my school I am only allowed to take Physics senior year, but it is not AP:thumbdown:

Hmm, that's interesting. If you had AP Physics I'd say take that over AP Chem...it is important to have a good physics background though. I'm as stuck as you as what to do  Sorry I can't help!

I would disagree. I took both at my HS. AP Chem was more important to my academic success and most of my peers agreed. Chem is usually the academic killer before Physics (though both hurt). Physics also has a LARGE curve whereas Chemistry was contract grading (80=A, 70=B....)

I understand that. Chem right now is killing me. I guess it can me dependent on your major. I'm doing Aerospace Engineer at the moment, everything is physics haha

Try taking some dual enrollment classes if you can, due to a transcript reading ing mixup, my son was out of sequence when we moved to small town Alabama from Minneapolis at the beginning of his 8th grade year and he had to retake their version of pre-algebra. Which meant that he wouldn't be able to get to Calculus in his senior year here. We enrolled him in the dual enrollment program at the local University and he's going to be done with Cal 2 by the time he grads.

Something to consider...

Best Of Luck!

Impressive. A high school aerospace engineer. That's a first for me.

Sir, I'm a freshman in college.

Ah. But still, I know few people taking majors courses as a freshman (outside of those that involve the core, like chemists, physicists, mathematicians, etc.)

If you're already taking majors course, I envy you!

To the OP: you're fine. (Plus, you cannot change it. Don't stress over stuff you have no control over.) I took 4 AP classes. Know your material. Retaining what you learn in those AP classes is important. If you start 4dig academics with that knowledge, you WILL be a step ahead.

I came in with A LOT of credits

lol I entered with something like 27 credits at USAFA, still had the core and no majors courses would have been available. But then, that is USAFA and I have a feeling if you are the same way that starting like a sophomore at a civilian school is probably the likely story. (I don't know much on the civilian side!)

Right now I'm considered a "Junior" with all the credits I transferred...the courses I need to take for my major include: Physics I, II, III (placed out of I and III though), statics, fluids, dynamics, thermodynamics, etc etc etc....a lot of physics related stuff, which is why I had the physics is important bias. It is all relevant to your major though. Obviously AP Chem would be more beneficial in a Chemistry major
