Texas A&M Class of 2015

My DS is going to A&M in the fall, and will also be attending the Eagle Scout weekend next week. He'll also be in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, continuing the tradition from his dad who was also in the Corps and the Band. Unless he gets his AFA appointment, which at this time is looking less likely all the time. No matter - A&M ROCKS!!:thumb:

Where are you from pennak and CTXmom? We are in San Antonio. Either of you going to be in the band? Or the Business School?

We are from Maryland not in the band or business. DS looking at history and intl studies and Arabic and marines nrotc

Maybe. DS and I are going down next week for the eagle scout event. Will probably decide soon after that. What made you choose a&m?

It's like the Cadets told me when I first got there (the traditions are a little overwhelming at first) "From the outside looking in, it's hard to understand. From the inside looking out, it's hard to explain."

Once you go to Aggie Eagle, you'll know.

Love your response! Thx. Looking forward to it. Gotta be warmer than Maryland right now

Live west of Austin, my son will not be going into the band or School of Business.

Pennak - what Morgan says here is so true! Our daughter is finishing her junior year at A&M (she's not in the Corps). She has had an amazing college experience and absolutely loves this school. Aggies have an intense loyalty to A&M and each other - it really is a family. Keep an open mind when you visit next week, and your son will be able to tell if it feels like "home" to him. The Corps is the heart and soul of A&M, and its presence is felt in every corner of the campus.
BTW - our son received a NROTC scholarship to A&M, but he chose to accept his appointment to USNA and is now finishing his plebe year. When he's home on leave he still wears his A&M and Corps t-shirts - I think part of his heart will always be at A&M! :thumb:

Thanks for the post PositiveThinking! Where are you from? Are are from Maryland. I will absolutely keep an open mind. I am very much looking forward to the visit, as is DS. A&M is high on DS's list. The Aggie Spirit is really impressive, of that there is no doubt. The Corps is paving the way for us, I have to admit. They have already given DS a scholarship and a waiver of out of state tuition and we haven't even done the Aggie Eagle competition yet. I will report back when we return. Ultimately it will be DS's decision. These kids are great, but they have to follow their own heart in these choices. Quite a tall order for 17 and 18 year olds. I am quite curious what he decides. He has a wealth of options, been admitted to A&M, Univ. of Maryland College Park, Univ. of Washington Seattle, VMI, Citadel and Norwich. Alas, a TWE from the USNA. But, he will do MO NROTC where ever he goes.

With my husband and I being "Old Ags" and living in College Station, we always assumed our daughter would go to A&M. Then she got the Naval Academy bug and A&M became the fallback position. Nonetheless, she attended an Aggie Eagle program and was thrilled to receive a NROTC scholarship to A&M. And she was prepared to be the loudest, proudest member of the Class of 2014 . . . until the USNA beckoned.

The Corps at A&M is like no other ROTC program. It's not the total immersion of VMI or the Citadel because you have this HUGE civilian student body. Yet, the Corps dominates the campus in many ways: the band, of course; student government; scholar leaders; yell leaders; etc.

We hope your son enjoys his trip and finds A&M to his liking.

(Oh, and BTHO Stanford in the Women's Final Four!):thumb:

I am looking forward to meeting all the parents and learning more about the Corps of Cadets. I know many Aggies or Aggie parents and the TX A & M tradition is stronger than USMA or USNA grads. Aggies are a loyal bunch of very good people.

I got into the Naval Academy Prep School, but turned it down to take my scholarship at A&M. I turely did fall in love with A&M, and I don't think I could turn down an opportunity to be apart of amazing traditions. I still feel like I should go to NAPS, but my family needs me close and I really feel like anywhere I go will make me happy and lead me to my goals. I am also from San Antonio, like someone else in this post is. I can't wait to be at A&M and can't wait for my first football game!
