TWE Letter- Details & ?'s

Unfortunately the TWE arrived today in Maryland.
Details:
Letter dated March 30 (Wednesday)
Letter Postmarked: March 31 (Thursday)
Delivered: April 1 (Friday) we are 45 min. from The Yard

Letter states over 19,100 applicants for 1,225 seats.

In the upper right corner of the letter it has two numbers and the date:
1531
NA-013-11
30 March 2011

What are the first two numbers? They are not the candidate number. Could the first number (1531) be a national pool ranking?

Curious but disappointed.
Plan B - Johns Hopkins University (not so shabby).

Good luck to everyone - now I don't have to spend hours on this forum....
 
uh oh......deja vu all over again, sounds and looks just like last year's TWE.
 
The info in the upper right is identification information for the letter. All Navy correspondence has a four digit Standard Subject Identification Code (SSIC). The 1351 refers to Officer Candidate Training and Education at the Academy. If I remember correctly the next line tells you this it the 13th letter prepared there during the 2011 fiscal year. Obviously that number remains the same for all rejections.

Should you have a career as a naval officer you will get very familiar with SSICs. Best of luck if you choose to reapply.
 
Johns Hopkins is an excellent Plan B!!! Good for you! Not shabby at all! I have a sick feeling mine is coming tomorrow. I am clear out West so it is likely in route. Got WL from USAFA today.
 
Well, the sun did come up today after receiving the TWE yesterday.

It's going to take time to decide to reapply or not. The excitement about the possibilities for the future are dampened right now - all of the challenges of PS, training, new surroundings, the spirit of the Academy, summer blocks, TRADITION being part of something bigger than yourself and endless list of new adventures....USNA is unique and special.

Hopkins will offer a very different list of challenges and opportunities - all very different from high school life but far from life at a SA and The Yard.

So much effort, energy and hope had gone into this pursuit..... adjusting to another plan will take time.
 
You are so right, you are going to be "grieving" a loss no matter what you decide to do. You are an amazing young person and have a lot to offer the world. Johns Hopkins has amazing things to offer you as well. You are going to be where you are supposed to be at this time--as hard as that is for you to see right now. Don't close any doors on re applying. You have time to think about it.
I will keep you in my thoughts and send you a hug over the lines. And again, not just anyone can get into JH University, either.

Mariners and Cobia I'm so sorry. I hope you both strongly consider reapplying and keeping the goal in mind: to become a success Officer in the Navy. This is only a bump in the road.

I hope not. There will be many more times in your life when you put your heart and soul into something and it doesn't work out the way you'd hoped. Grad school, jobs, love life, etc. The scenario will repeat itself throughout your life and I'm not sure it ever gets easier.

You pick up the pieces and move forward. As someone much wiser than I once said, "Every time a door closes, a window opens." Most often, it's true.
 
I'm new here, can someone please tell me what TWE and BFE mean? I tried to do an internet search with no luck. My daughter received an appointment, which I presume is a BFE?

now, when did you receive your appointment? today?
 
It wasn't a waste of a year. If you didn't apply, you didn't have a chance from the start. If you truely want to go, step back and look at your resume and work over the next 8 months to make it stronger. Go to a local school and take calculus, chemistry, physics and english. Work to get your PFT scores higher and your SAT/ACT scores higher. My father-in-law went to a junior college for 2 years before he started at the Academy. He was one the the brightest students in math and science that went through the Academy. Later taught Physics and Russian at USNA and even went on to get a Phd. Good things don't always come easy. You're young and bright. Apply again. You now have an advantage, because you know the process and where to improve on it. Good luck!!!

That explains why I couldn't find it on the internet! I was expecting TWE/BFE to be official Navy acronyms. My daughter got the appointment last week. She got her TWE from the Air Force yesterday.

Congratulations for your daughter! She must be thrilled and relieved! Did she get a call from a MOC or the folder?
 
She is very thrilled, but also apprehensive about the physical aspect of it. We got her a gym membership and I've started running with her (my husband and I are retired USMC). She has strong determination so I know she'll be fine. I don't know what a MOC is. She heard from her state representative. But then it took a week for the letter to come in the mail, so we started to question whether the news was valid or not. I am very happy for her. She worked so hard to get to this point. She also has had some disappointing news from some other colleges she applied to so the appointment is a big relief.

MOC stands for Member of Congress so the representative call applies to this. Congrats again and I'm sure she'll be great!

Did your MOC give a principal nom ?
Just got my TWE here MA 9th (had a Senator as well).
Where you off too now ?
Doing it again or is once enough ?
