usmma prep

That's really cool do you plan on attending? I have as well, but I haven't fully decided if I am going or not.

That depends on which service academy you are asking about. Since this thread opened with a USMMA question I'll assume you want to know about Kings Point.

The final list will be in late May. Twenty-five names are on the current list, but I expect that to grow by 5-15 people.

Does that help?

Thank You for the information, if you are currently on the list that you mentioned should you have been notified? Yes I am referring to USMMA. I am asking on behalf of my son who is contact with the track coach and it is the track coach who wanted to know if he was open to NMMI. I know that he put his name in for the service prep sponsorship, but we have not had any confirmation.

What about USMA? Can you provide the same information about West Point AOG civil prep scholarships? Thanks!!

Actually the process with the AoG and the USMA is entirely different.

NMMI is to the USMMA and the USCGA* what USMAPS is to the USMA, and NAPS is to the USNA. When it comes to the "BIG 3" NMMI is one of several civilian prep schools that are used.

To answer your question specifically: If your son/daughter is to be sponsored by the Association of Graduates (AoG) at the USMA you will receive a letter stating such. You will also be given a list of schools that the AoG has approved for their preps. You then apply to that school as a sponsored AoG prep. Please understand that this is different than the USMA asking if you want the USMAPS option. Does that help?

*The USCGA uses NMMI and MMI as their two "sponsored" prep schools.

OK...thanks. So, because of the differences you cited, I assume that you do not have information about when all USMA AoG Scholarships will be offered or how many people (if any) have already been given offers (like you do for USMMA). Is that correct?

P.S. -- Love your posts...very informative!!

MD Dad: I don't have that info yet. Our Admissions Office may have the initial offers. Last year the AoG released a series of lists dated: 23 MAR, 30 MAR, 8 APR, 20 APR, and 20 MAY. There were 40 names on these five lists. There may have been more - I happened to have copies of only those at hand.

Thank you...this information is very helpful. Although I've learned that what happened last year will not necessarily happen again this year, this gives us a better understanding of how things work.

NNMI Prep Director,

I posted a few questions earlier, I was hoping that when you had a moment you might respond. I was wondering if you don't get an admittance to KP is it still possible to be a sponsored prep? As I stated earlier, my son is in contact with the track coach and he ( the coach) put his name in to become a sponsored prep. Would this notification come at a later date and would he be notified either way? If he receives this sponsorship he plans to attend.

Thanks again for taking time to answer our questions!

Walshc:

We don't usually receive a final list of sponsored preps from the USMMA until late May. Please understand that even those who receive appointments have three options to respond. Those being, "yes, no, and wait". The folks who respond with the "I'll wait to give you my decision later." cause fluctuations in the system when/if they eventually decline. This has a ripple effect throughout the system. Every year we (NMMI) lose a sponsored prep or two from academy "X" because they accept a direct appointment to academy "Y" because of the timing of appointments from different academies. I understand that the USMMA has to deal with the same issue (candidates eventually rejecting a KP appointment in favor of another academy)

The vast majority of our sponsored preps from the USMMA are recruited athletes. The Track coach "may" have influence with the Admissions Board, I can't say for sure.

USMMA sponsored preps (unlike USCGA preps) do not go to the academy before coming to NMMI. They are scheduled to come here on 2 AUG 2011.

BTW: New list from MMA today. Current list has 33 Prep names, up 8 from the previous one.

My son was placed on Hold status at USMMA, what are the chances he will recieve a prep-school? Also do we need to contact the Admissions and let them know we will take a prep-school? Can he apply directly with the prep-school?
Thanks
