I am wondering when the 3 year scholarships are activated.

Also wondering if you have to redo the DoDMerb qualification and when they typically do it?

I know that you do ROTC as a freshman and then the scholarship activates in your sophomore year, but I am wondering about DoDmerb and also wondering how the scholarship works with when tuition comes due each year?

Once you are qualified by DoDmerb you are good to go. You shouldn't need a second unless some issues were raised. When you start the scholarship your second year as a 200, the detachment will notify the school and tuition will be paid. Some schools also offer room and board for rotc cadets.

DoDMERBs are good for two years. As long as your exam was no more than two years prior to date of contracting, you're good. When I was an AS200, I had to re-do my DoDMERB since I got my first one done way back in high school.

There is a specific number of days at which point you have to be contracted once school starts. I had a 3-year Type 7 out of HS. Classes started August 20-something, and I was contracted September 17th. The detachment will notify your school to let them know AFROTC will be paying that semester and you should not be asked to pay.

For anything more specific you should probably contact the detachment.

Nick is correct DodMERB is only valid for 2 yrs. The cadets that find themselves re-doing DodMERB are the ones that also applied for the AFA. The reason why is they usually get that done in the summer of their rising hs sr yr, thus, 2 yrs later when you go back to school, it is no longer valid. If you know for sure that you got your physical done back in the summer of your hs yr, get with your det now and have them schedule you for a new DodMERB during the summer. If you don't do that they won't pay you and while you are at school, you will be forced to get it done. More importantly they will not pay your tuition and that could be a pain in your arse. Talk to your 1st shirt, they will be able to see if you will need it.

Don't expect to get you stipend pay until October 1st, because you do not get paid proactive, but retroactive. That means Oct 1st pay is for Sept 15th through the 30th.

Your 1st few checks will be screwy because they come in fast and furious, stipend and book allowance, stipend will always be 1st and 15th, book allowance just appears. Thus, if you are contracted on the 13th, the 1st check will be for just the 13th and 14th. Than you will get the 2 week stipend.

Also, book allowance is split in half. You will not get 900 straight out. You get 450 per semester and it takes about 6 weeks to get that reimbursed...again Oct. and Feb will be when those checks come out.

OBTW as C200 you will need to get a physical if you are selected for SFT, regardless of your DodMERB. This is a short physical, think sports. However, they will require specific shots, so if you have to re-do your exam might as well get all of your shots up to speed at that time too.

I don't know for this yr., but last yr they required the H1N1 besides the traditional shots. Our DS had to get 3. the H1N1, tetanus booster and menogoccal (sp?) booster. Colleges, at least larger colleges usually have doc hours, so you can do it on campus, but you need your medical records.

Also, when you do contract they will require your birth certificate and social security card. Copies don't work. It has to be the real thing. If you don't have that it will slow down your paperwork until you can provide it.
