Hey guys!
I posted here before to check competitive I was and I just wanted and update on my possible chances of getting in.

Right now im a Junior and have about a 4.05-4.1 GPA, about 20th in my class of about 650 (sorry my school doesnt give transcripts out unless I have a valid written reason or unless I pay). I really messed up my freshman year by having a 3.5 GPA, but I've had a 4.42 my sophmore year and a 4.5 so far in my junior year

I've taken 3 honors and 6 AP classes so far, planning on taking 5-6 next year in my senior year

I used to play football my freshman and sophomore year and was captain/defensive MVP for my freshman and JV team...i didnt play this year cause of injuries, family issues, and keeping up with academics...would not having a varsity letter hurt me a lot even if i was a captain/DMVP in lower rung teams?

I had a 220 PSAT but haven't taken the SAT yet(taking it in May, hopefully over a 2200)

I don't know if this helps much but I won a regional National History Day competition and will move on to the next round in the California competition...hopefully i make it to nationals

I'll also probably attend SLS this year if i can get a spot in the may session. I dont know if this also helps at all but my brother made it to the Air Force Academy and has graduated this year(I heard military in the family can help but idk if its true)

How competitive do you guys think I am? I think I'm a bit underpar do you guys think there is a realistic chance I can make it? Thanks everyone!

Class rank, GPA, and PSAT (probably SAT scores too) are great.

If I were you, I'd try being involved in more varsity sports (cross country and track for example) and getting letters would be nice. Being a JV football captain is good, but try to make varsity next year.

That competition does help in your extracirriculars, but is that it? If so, I would seek leadership positions and extracirricular activities that I would enjoy doing, not for the sake of resumes.

Bottom line: academics are superb, but improve on athletics/activities
I don't think having a military background helps, but I'm not 100% sure
Hope this helps! Good luck! :thumb:

How much more is a varsity letter worth than a JV captain and mvp?
idk if i'm willing to come back to football again next year and i think thats really the only sport i can letter in

and what sort of activities/EC stuff can i do at this point? 2nd semester of junior year is winding down so there really isnt much i can join at this point...im not religious so i dont have any church group, ive never been a scout, all i really have are my 2 years of fb and about 150 hours of comm service. I is the area that I really need help with

and also would doing well on the CFA in SLS help to stand out or does it really just speed up the process by not having to take it again?

if you look at the entry profiles of the last classes to USMA almost everyone has a varsity letter (except for maybe like 70). That might explain the value of varsity letters.

Are there any alternatives? Maybe if i return to martial arts which i haven't done as kid, would that help a bit?

I'm pretty desperate and looking for everything i can

better question is how competitive is your congressional district?

More than likely you will get 3Qed, barring there is nothing wrong with you medcially and you train for CFA.

A district in my state had no 3Qed candidate this year, so IF you were applying from that district this year you would have gotten an appointment.

More sports activities would help. I also don't see any leadership activities other than your JV accomplishment.
