Hi all! Coming in from out of town & don't have a clue... Can you offer suggestions on nice hotels to stay at for Indoc & Parent's Weekend? Any that offer discounted rates to USMMA bookings? Thanks!

The Inn at Great Neck and the Andrew Hotel are both in Great Neck, relatively close to the Academy. They have offered discount rates in the past to mids families but they are not inexpensive. We have stayed at the Inn at Great Neck for both INDOC and Parents Weekend. It was very nice. There is also a lovely place in Glen Cove. Maybe someone else can chime in with the name and location. No matter where you decide to stay, book early!

Do some searching for the annual "hotel threads" for Kings Point. Lots of recommendations.

Glen Cove Mansion

Glen Cove is about 15-20 minutes from the academy. You need a rental car if you are staying there, but parking is free. The grounds are beautiful, the service is good, the food in the upstairs pub is excellent despite a limited menu, the rooms are okay but not great. We have stayed there several times and have enjoyed being more out in the country rather than crammed into the city. Our DS also enjoyed getting away from the school area on Parents'Weekend. If you make reservations early and negotiate, you can get rooms for around $100.

From our personal experience, I would not stay at a motel with the initials A.I., near Queens. I believe we were eating breakfast with ladies who are employed in one of the worlds oldest profession. Pay the piper and stay in Great Neck.

My family and I stayed at the Marriott Hotel in Uniondale for acceptance's weekend and we got a good rate because us being associated with Kings Point and a lot of families stayed there. I know you are going for indoc but you might want to call them and see if they are offering a good rate for Indoc. It's a really nice hotel and it was only about twenty minutes to the academy. Hope this helps.

Marriott-Uniondale....We just returned from USMMA Open House and we stayed there 3 nights, Clean, Nice updated Rooms, Extremely cozy beds (marriott dream bed!!)....and the Parents Assoc. negotiated a $120 rate...WOW....We will definitely be there for Indoc and Parents Weekend:thumb:

The Adria offers a discount but I would not stay there again. It was so noisey during the middle of the night. I stayed 3 nights and got woke up in the middle of the night all three nights.

You probably were indeed dining in the company of "professionals" and I agree it's best if you let your Mids save that experience for their sea year...

Uh, um, ahem... yes. I do rememeber the only hotel experience that I had at KP. The night before Indoc, I had a room booked at the Bayberry Great Neck. For the then steep price (in 1977) of 49 bucks, I figured that I would have my own room. Little did I know that I was sharing my room with three other future potential plebes. In fact, just about any plebe that was staying at the Bayberry was booked that way. Nice. Very nice.

Everyone... Thank you for all the great info on where to stay and things to do in the Long Island / NY area. Hotels for Indoc & Parent's Weekend are taken care of (scratch that off the list!) Thanks again! -H20Bug1

Was just told the Inn at Great Neck is sold out for Parents weekend. Am trying the Hyatt Garden City. Now has negotiated rate, 139. Free parking. Anyone with experience have any thoughts? Still considering Glen Cove if DH is game for the extra bucks Also need to get room for DS who is going solo to indoc. Anyone with ideas or have a DS going on there own?

There are options for your DS/DD going solo to Indoc. Often, PC's can meet up and share a room. Sometimes a new family will add your DS/DD to their group. Our DS was 17 for Indoc and could not rent his own hotel room. We contacted Admissions and they matched him up with a local family that picked him up at the airport, took him home, fed him dinner and breakfast, and took him to the academy to report the next morning. We were pretty overwhelmed by their generosity. We have since come to know that things like this are not unusual and it's all part of being in the King's Point family. You just have to ask and help will magically appear!

I posted earlier in this thread that I went to Indoc alone. My folks made reservations at the Bayberry. At LaGuardia, I caught the Long Island Limo to that diner on Northern Boulevard (name escapes me). There was one other future Plebe on the same flight so we shared a cab and walked to the hotel. We were placed 4 to a room (by the hotel, thanks, guys). Caught a cab in the morning to school. As I recall, of the eight or so that I hung out with that night, only myself and one other made it through to graduation.
