Just a note to all the parents of mids and cadets - if at all possible, get to at least one Army Navy game in December. It is cold, it is not necessarily cheap or easy, but it is something that you will remember for the rest of your life...and whichever you root for, you will feel sympanthy for the other - it is the greatest sporting event played in any year, and you will feel goosebumps when 8,000 of American's finest youth march onto the field. I was fortunate enough to get to the game twice (from Guam), and it is a great opportunity to begin to understand (just a little) about the friendships and pride that your child will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Absolutely!!

My husband is a USMA 1990 grad and my eldest son will be entering USMA class of 2015. I would like to whole-heartedly agree with mysonusna06. We try to attend the Army-Navy Game each year. It is true...you will never forget the experience of an Army-Navy game!!

Make sure you get there early, though. The game is great, but it is watching our cadets/midshipmen march onto the field, searching the sky to see the parachute teams cascading down , feeling the goosebumps rise as the American flag enters the stadium from the heavens, singing the National Anthem with our future military leaders, and the rush of watching the fighter jets perform their fly-over that you will relive for years to come. Truly inspiring!

Where will the 2011 game be held?

I've heard so much about the buses that caravan to the game from the academies and I cann't wait to see it.

Any tips/advise you can give for trip planning purposes?

Always an Outstanding Event

The 2011 Army-Navy game is being played at FedEx Field in Landover , MD on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2:30 PM....just outside of Washington DC....and only minutes from ANNAPOLIS, MD :thumb:
Tickets are available for purchase by cadets and midshipmen right now and will be offered to the general public in a few weeks.

I was going to reply with "almost always Philadelphia" because I remembered seeing at least once in the last few years the game being elsewhere. I was also going to recommend checking the Academy sports webpage so went ahead and did that to find Landover as the surprise site. So I guess the caravan for Mids won't be too long this year.

This leaves me wondering if there's been any upgrades to the ingress/egress routes to that stadium. The last time I was in the area was over 20 years ago, and it was a terrible mess. I literally pushed back my seat and almost took a nap waiting to get out of there.

Yes only 8 more months until the biggest game in all of sports. Two schools whose young men and women go onto defend the freedom, of these United States of America, play their guts out on the field of play. General MacArthur once said:

Upon the fields of friendly strife
Are sown the seeds
That, upon other fields, on other days
Will bear the fruits of victory.

Good luck to both school, Yes I will be there. Go Navy Beat Army,

Do all the plebes (USMA) attend? Would I get a chance to see and possibly grab a hug from my son?

Yes all Cadets and Mids attend the A-N Game(unless restricted, SIQ, etc.)....many Mids/Cadets often find and visit there families in the stadium at halftime (or even sooner) . Also, there is "usually" several hours of liberty for all classes following the game to join familyand/or friends for dinner....NAVY usually has staggered late bus departures all evening after the game....ARMY probably has similar set-ups...often upper classmen are granted overnight liberty and have arranged private transport back to their academy :thumb:

note : Plebes may not be aware of all the final details of game day schedules and liberty parameters until a few days prior to the BIG EVENT...

:director:.....GO NAVY !!!

All you guys are getting me pumped up. Can we play the game now.

Another note on the tickets: The first tickets for Army Navy are distributed by "priority" points (its that way for USMA, so I am sure that USNA has a similair system) sometime in June. That gives time for people (including incoming classes) to buy season tickets, make donations, etc...(thats one way of how your "points" add up).

Unless things changed from how it worked in the last few years, parents of current mids will be given an opportunity to purchase up to 4 tickets to the Army/Navy game.
