Going "home" to CGA....

I coached the Coast Guard Headquarters hockey team this weekend in Hyannis, MA at the Commandant's Cup. I would have played but I haven't been cleared by my doctor from shoulder surgery. Great time. I decided to head to the Coast Guard Academy after our team was eliminated. I know I really didn't like/appreciate CGA while I was a cadet, but I have to say, returning 5 years later....kind of puts a smile on your face. The new wing of Chase looks great. The exchange is the best exchange I've seen in the Coast Guard. Sad to see the mini-mart was closed, but such is life. My class has our 5-year reunion this this, I hope to see the student union (or whatever it's called) while I'm there.

Just interesting to roll in and feel like you're returning to a good place. :thumb:

Copying this post and sending to DS. He is in the midst of a tough semester. It will be good for him to see beyond the here and now. While he is aware of how lucky he is to be at CGA, sometimes the realities are not neat and pretty! :wink:

Takes some time. I think I started appreciating it my 2/c year, and certainly my firstie year. When you realize how great your friends are, you think about some of that when you see it for the first time after awhile. My class is at the point when some of us, including myself, will separate from the service. I guess that's it. Before the 5 year mark everyone's just rotating from location to location and unit to unit, but we're all in the service. It kind of dawns on people that some of us are going on to other areas in the world, but we still have a common bond.

Tell your son to keep his head up. It's hard to see now for him, but the place will be great, and it will open up some big doors on the outside. :thumb:
