How is the Candidate Fitness Assessment scored?
Also, do women have to complete 1 pull-up to pass, or does a score from the flexed arm hang work?

Each event on the CFA is awarded points....only those in admissions know the point system for the events-candidates/parents will never know how they score the CFA  With that said..the Academy does post average scores for each event in the cadidate handbook. Try to beat the averages on each event, and you should do well. For females, you can do either a pull-up or flexed arm hang. One pull up will net more points than any amount of time on the flexed arm hang.

I had to retake the CFA 3 times, every other score was above or close to the averages except for my chin ups. On the 3rd time I did two chin ups and that seemed to be enough to get me accepted. :) So, moral of the story is: Work on chin ups as much as possible!!!

Thanks, I definately need to!! Did you do any exercises for those muscles? I don't have a pull-up bar, so I need a different way to strengthen them.

The best way to improve your pullups is by doing pullups. Otherwise, work on back muscles and shoulder muscles. You can also try having less body fat. Less body fat = less weight to lift. :thumb: I'd suggest buying a pullup bar and putting it in a kitchen door way or something. Everytime you pass it, do a few pullups. You'll see some improvement the more you work on them.

I suggest going to walmart or target and buying a in the door pull up bar. Mine was about 15 bucks and it was completely worth the money. :)

I agree, buy the pull up bar.

We did this for DS. Made a rule everytime he entered or exited he had do a min of X pull ups, and each week we increased it.

You would be amazed how often you enter and exit your room daily!

He has siblings so if he tried to enter/exit without doing it they would scream in the house that he needed to do it.

Within weeks he went from 3 pull ups to 13, and eventually to the max of 18 within about 2 months.

I know you are a girl, but if you start off with just 1, and increase by 1 every week or 2, by the time you do the CFA you will be maxing.

If I recall correctly, the AFA has a min that they do not post, and if you fail to meet one of the mins, but max everything else, you still fail. In other words max the run, fail the sit ups, and you fail.

Only the AFA can open the portal to re-take the CFA, once submitted it is up to them.

Finally, look at the CFA as the one area you have complete control over. Think to yourself, there is always going to be 1 last apptmt and at least 2 people will compete for it. Do you want to lose that apptmt because your WCS was lower because you did 1 less pull up on the CFA and that lowered your score?

Every point matters!

Good luck.
