I bought a gun!

Well as the title reads, i just bought my first gun over the weekend and boy am I stoked! I went to a gun show that had over 1000 tables of guns. I kept eyeing the ww2 ones and I went back the next day and purchased one. a 1944 Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30. I know its nothing fancy but I've always been fascinated with ww2 so now I feel like I have a part of it. Got it for $145. Came with a bayonet, 3 ammo carrying packs, a sling, and cleaning kit. I love it.

So anyone else got any firearms here? Post them up!

Congrats on your 1st gun. That's always an exciting time. And you picked up a very good first rifle. There's plenty of military surplus ammo. Especially online. And it's very inexpensive. Just remember; if you're going to use "Corrosive" ammo, that prior to doing a normal cleaning of the barrel after shooting it; clean it first with a brush and some warm soap and water. YES; SOAP AND WATER. Corrosive ammo sounds bad, but it's not. It's just that it leaves a mineral salt on the barrel and will lead to pitting and rusting. So, if using corrosive ammo "It will say on the box", when you're done, clean the barrel and chamber with warm soap and water first; dry it, then normal clean and lube it. The mosin is a great russian WWII weapon. As popular with the eastern block countries as the M1 Garand was for the Americans. Also; if you reload, you can make some great hunting rounds for it.

As for listing my guns, I can't do that. There's a limit on how much space you can write, and I'd exceed that. LOL!!!! Mike....
 
Congrats! I have a few myself. My 1911 and old bolt-action .22LR are my favorites.

Just remember to ALWAYS abide by the Four Rules.
 
Good choice for a first rifle. The Mosin kicks like a mule, in my opinion, but it's a solid rifle. I'm currently going through the hoops to get a Mauser 98, should get it by June.

My personal advice: Spend a lot of time breaking it down and cleaning it before you go off and shoot it. Shooting is fun, but if you can get comfortable with maintenance, it will be much easier in the long run.
 
I'm originally from New Jersey. While there are many things I like(d) about living back in Jersey, new york, and other local areas; I am so glad that I now live in Wyoming. There is no such thing as "Hoops". Walk into a gun store. Look around. Point to what you want. Give them the money. You walk out with the gun about 5 minutes later. And if you have a concealed weapons permit, then you aren't even required to do a background check. I couldn't even imagine going back east with the firearms I have.

Anyway; glad you got a Mosin. It's a great gun. And good luck Cape in going through your "hoops". mike.....
 
M1 Garand. As my instructor used to say "if you run out of clips you can beat the enemy to death". It will still shoot through a tree. 1903 Springfield would be my first choice for a beautiful weapon.
 
I have 5 weapons that i would NEVER EVER SELL. Even if I was declaring bankruptcy. My 1955 H&R Service Grade M1 Garand is one of them.

How the heck to you rack the bolt? It's behind you ear! I know how inovative the Marines can be but this must have been somebody's idea of a joke!

Personally, I still have a warm and fuzzy for the M-14. Trained with it and I loved the accuracy. I've fired the M-16A1 and I'm not impressed.
 
Prior to the M14 the M1 Thumb was a right of passage during inspections.:eek:

If you are interested in obtaining more military surplus rifles and other collectible firearms you may want to look into a FFL03 C&R license.

It allows you to purchase firearms classified as "Curios & Relics" directly from the distributors and have them shipped directly to your home. And much cheaper than what you paid. In many cases, saving the $20-$40 transfer fee charged by your local gun shop is worth the effort, especially if you are an avid collector.

What's a C&R firearm?

  • Firearms made a minimum of 50 years before today’s date, not to include replicas thereof;

  • Firearms certified by a curator of municipal, State or a Federal museum that displays firearms as curios or relics possessing museum interest; and

  • Additional firearms that derive a great portion of their value from being novel, bizarre, rare, or due to their association an event, historical figure or period.

The license is $30 for 3 years.

The UPS man grew tired of seeing me when I first got my C&R, as he was bringing a long thin box to my house that required adult signature at least once a week. M38, M44, SKS, 91/30, K31, M1, MK4, and other nice collectible rifles can be found pretty cheaply if you search the internet. You can also purchase C&R handguns as well and have them shipped directly to you.

FYI - The CZ-82 pistol was placed on the "C&R Eligible" list as a direct request from the curator of the West Point museum (Les Jensen) in 2006. Although the pistol is not over 50 years old, in his opinion it deserved to be included in their museum collection and the BATFE agreed and reclassified the pistol.

Well actually I bought this one at a gun show at my state fairgrounds. So it was fairly easy to get. Just fill out about 3 minutes of information and the guy called to check to make sure my license was real then he handed it over. But thanks yea ill look into it.
 
Oh yea and does anyone know where i can find a good guide to learn how to take it apart and clean it and stuff? Never done it before and dont wanna mess anything up.
