We are proud that our son has been selected to be a DI, but sad that his summer will be cut short. Does anyone know when the DIs will be released to come home and when they need to return for their training.

DIs have traditionally been released after their last final and have to return whenever Train the Trainer starts. usually works out to be around a week, maybe a little less.

MY DD is EMT for INdoc and said the INdoc detail can request special leave after their last exam and the detail needs to report back on June 26th.

Do you know if they can leave their belongings or do they have to remove everything for this short duration?

EMT liberty- indoc.

Just wondering why some DI's are granted special liberty so they can go home before working Indoc while EMT's aren't allowed that -- and is there a special req. for band co. to stay for graduation? Also wondered why mids can't leave until Tues. when the graduation is on Monday am? I have asked our DS but can't seem to get an answer. He will be an EMT during Indoc but special liberty was turned down and he is in band as well. Oh well, guess we just have to get used to not seeing him much these 4 years. Also, just tough being on the other coast -- can't just pop over to NY too easily. Still glad he is there and doing well, just had been looking forward to a summer vacation with him.

Yes, being in band can cause additional problems, such as needing to be there to perform at graduation. As noted a few posts above EMT's are being granted special lib, just looks like the band co guys are needed to stay. Bummer for your family for sure :(

As for leaving Tuesday: I know in some years (can't remember if it is every year) midshipmen are required to stay an extra day to ensure that everything that needs to get done to prepare for the place being empty occurs. (eg cleaning, moving, etc etc etc)

Thanks KP 2001 -- I was just so hoping that he could come home sooner but those are the breaks. DS is very involved there at least and making positive commitments to his education. Maybe we will get lucky and have him home before or after sea year (A split). That would be so nice. We will go to Parent's Weekend, of course. I sure hope it is happening this year. Hearing stories -- but that is another thread.

Thanks

Well as an inbound parent all I can say is thanks for allowing your DS to assist at Indoc. My DS is very stoked about it and I guess this is a favor thats passed forward. It will be our turn in a couple years.

Okay, hoping someone else would bite first. What do you mean : parents weekend, you hope it is happening this year? Rather alarmed at this as I am not planning to go to indoc! I have read every other thread and hadn't noticed this bit of gossip. Panic time?

Just kidding about the parents weekend thing,,,,Right?

2015 parents weekend

I'll bite lynpar, there was much angst last year about the cost for parents weekend. As I recall it was the first year where the academy lost federal funding for the event. In order for it to continue the parents association funded it and charged "admission". It wasn't exactly cheap, I don't recall the exact amount but I want to say it was in the $125 per person range.

We did attend and would not have missed it for the world. Worth every penny but for those, including our family, that had never been before, we questioned the value of the tickets. Silly us.

anyway, I think there may be hesitation from the parents group, new person in charge etc.

It cost us the same amount to attend Acceptance/Parents Weekend in 2009 and worth every penny. Wouldn't miss it for the world if you can financially swing it. If not, postpone Christmas presents, etc for a year moms and dads (to each other!) and go. You will not regret it. You will be so proud to see your dd/ds on the field taking the pledge, watching the game, etc. And you MUST GO TO BEAT RETREAT!! :thumb:

Parents weekend is still on!

Geeze guys, where do you hear such crazy notions?

PARENTS WEEKEND IS 2-5 SEPT. 2011.

PLEASE PLEASE.....when you have a question about an event, check the national parents website. IF THERE ARE CHANGES they will be posted there ASAP.

But running around saying " the sky is falling, the sky is falling" is so much more fun! But thanks for the link. Good to be reminded there is an official site for up to date factual information. :thumb:

Yearbook question. Is it appropriate for 4th yr. parents to take out ads and pictures for our mids or it is reserved for graduating class?

Personally I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe some more recent mids/parents can comment on their recommendations as well.

Agree with KP2001. I've only seen ads for the parents of seniors. :) I'm sure the yearbook company would tell you otherwise to generate revenue but.....well you get it.
