ROTC without scholarship

So everyone is always asking how to get the scholarship, what grades you need, what GPA, what ECs...What if you don't go for a scholarship? Is anything different? If i want to do AFROTC and it is at the college I go to, can I do it? Furthermore, If i do AFROTC without the scholarship, can I major in a non-technical science? Will this whole process--NOT having a scholarship, DO having a non-technical major-- affect my number of career choices within the Air Force, Navy, or Army? Will It affect how I get to these possible careers? :confused::confused::confused:

I'm just really curious because there is a life after military for some people, whether it be after the initial commitment, 10 years after, or even 20 years, and not everyone will want to be stuck in a career field involving chemical engineering just because they could get a scholarship out of it...that kind of defeats the purpose of the scholarship, going to school (becoming an officer of course), but not for what you are interested in?

Not all of this pertains to me personally, although some of it does and it would be great to hear some ideas and/or facts.

If there is ROTC at your school you can do it without a scholarship. For the Army, scholarship cadets sometimes get to some extra training than the other cadets. I've heard stories of non-schol. cadets leaving a stx and the schol. cadets staying there to learn a little more. That's the only difference as far as I know. Also, the Army doesn't care what major you are, an officer I talked to was a music major in college and she is in EOD now. But if you are an engineering major, you have a greater chance of branching into engineering. I have no clue about the other branches though.
 
ROTC without a scholarship is no different than with one. I'm still not sure who all in my class has a scholarship and who doesn't. You are able to participate in all the same training, however you won't be getting paid til your MSIII year.
 
Not sure what you really want to know.....but just like all federal employees, cadets are paid on the 1st and 15th of each month. Freshman are paid 300/month. MSII 350/month. MSIII 450/month. MSIV 500/month. Direct deposited into the bank of your choice.
 
Once you join the ROTC, should be able to apply for 3 year scholarship (or used to).

The cadre know which cadets are looking for scholarships and are constantly working to get enough funds for these cadets. As soon as money comes through for a scholarship, the top cadet(s) waiting get all their contracting stuff in order and swear in.
