As I am preparing items to have sent/giving care package ideas I was wonderring exactly what items are issued on I-Day. Please don't respond with "everything you need" or something like that. Actual issued items please. Thanks in advance.

In the PTR package there is a booklet titled 'Important Information for the class of 2015'. Under Induction Day (page 9) is a list of everything you will be issued and information on what you can and cannot bring. There are also numerous previous threads here with good information regarding care packages, etc.

the PTR lists undergarment clothing items and nothing more. I am referring to items issued other than clothes. I know the standard snacks, drink mix, cards, photos care package bit. I am looking to see what, beside clothing and shoes, is issued.

This topic is heavily discussed every year. You might start by searching this forum, especially in the May - July 2010 timeframe, for words such as "care package" and get some good ideas.

I believe that, unlike in my day, one's company controls what may be sent during PS and that many food items -as well as electronic gadgets- are "contraband" and not permitted.

Thus, you might look into what folks have said in prior years and then ask additional questions based on that info.

My intent is not for care packages. I would like to find out exactly what items are issued on I-Day so that I can answer questions such as "should I bring/send a basic sewing kit for buttons and such?"
What items are issued to every plebe that walks through Alumni Hall on I-Day?

I know you don't want to hear that they'll issue you "everything you need" but guess what...that's exactly what will happen! Welcome to the military...if they don't issue it to you then you don't need it!

You wont be wearing anything initially that will require you to do sewing. Polish for shoes and name tags (if they still require them to polish name tags) will all be issued.

Maybe you should help us out by asking us specific questions. Plus, you'll have a great idea on I-Day when you walk into your room and see the stack of issued USNA items on your rack/desk. If you're not the last one through the process you'll probably have time to at least put that stuff away and when you get your last minutes w/ your parents following the swearing in ceremony you can let them know then if there is anything else you require.

The answer to what to bring for Plebe summer is to show up with socks and underware and personal grooming items like toothbrush, things for contacts, razor, comb, deordorant.I thing for the care package will be the clorex white sticks they come in very handy.

The Navy will issue everything else, yes that includes sewing kits shoe polish, etc. Anything they do not give him will be deemed unnessary so anything that you think about bringing will either be issued or will be put into a locker till after Plebe summer

They issue the regular socks, t shirts, uniforms, dixie cap cover, toothbrush, toothpaste, overnight bag, sewing kit, marking kit (with the alpha numbers etc and stencils for marking clothes), reef points, a notebook, pen/pencil, shoe polish, and eventually glasses if needed, tennis shoes, boots, more socks, more underwear, just about anything a kid could want/need or more. When our oldest went, he was issued luggage with the Naval Academy insignia on all the pieces. I do not recall any of the other boys getting this. As the summer and plebe year goes on, they will recieve more uniforms, coats, etc. I am sure I am forgetting things they are issued but it is just about anything anyone could/should want. Care packages can consist of the fun things as the needed things are taken care of by the powers that be. Literally, if a mid showed up to Bancroft naked, he would be taken care of in short order and wouldn't need another thing for the next six weeks or so.

You could show up on I-day with nothing but the clothes on your back and be fine.

I brought my own socks, underwear, and undershirts (also basic toiletries and stuff) and don't think touched them over the summer. I think maybe the only items I used that I brought were things like deodorant or toothpaste where I just preferred what I'd brought with me.

Toiletries and everything are issued. They've thought about the issue thing pretty thoroughly, so it's pretty comprehensive. The content list for "PLEBE ISSUE, MEDIUM BOX, FEMALE" (one of several, if I'm even getting the name right) ran a couple pages of fine print if I remember correctly.
You'll get piles of things that you never realized you needed, and plenty of things that you don't need at all.

One more thing that's not issued on I-day but it's something you'll learn quickly - the Navy knows what you need better than you do. I don't know how much more clearly to say it: bring what they tell you to bring and nothing else. Once in your company, you'll figure it out and can ask parents to send the unissued necessities that you're allowed.

Bring your cell phone and charger in a plastic bag. It will be returned to you for your three (3) phone calls during Plebe Summer.

DS packed the items that were 'suggested to bring' and all was taken away upon arrival.

If he did it all over again he would arrive with a small backpack (labeled) with:

1 pair of white socks
1 pair of white underwear
1 crew neck t shirt
1 black underarmor shorts
razor, blades, shaving cream, deodarant, bar of soap, ...all in a ziplock bag
Charged Cellphone (labeled) with battery removed, battery, charger (labeled), in Labeled ziploc bag.
All appropriate documents

He wore:
Shorts, Polo, belt, running shoes

First care package:
5 black underarmor shorts
5 white T-shirts
Tide Stick
Bleach pen
eyeglasses repair kit
cliff shots
cliff bars
powerade/gatorade powder
acne facewash/cream
hair and body wash
shoe polish sponge (the kind with no color)
two extra plain white pillowcases
sunscreen
chapstick

It's tough to send them off with hardly anything, but they are well taken care of!!!

First care package:
5 black underarmor shorts

BLACK underarmour shorts???? Just curious, I sent white since their uniforms (whiteworks) are, well, WHITE. And when school begins, they are wearing their summer whites.

I believe the underarmour shorts are to wear under the black running shorts not the white uniforms and the PTR information specified black or dark blue.

What is the best way to carry in any paperwork or extra documentation on I-Day?

What about sports equipment? The reporting instructions say to bring any equipment for sports you play - cleats, rackets, etc. Are these used during PS or put away for use during the regular school year?

Yes, this was for chafing with the running shorts.

DS brought all I-day paperwork, including everything that he had already sent in, in a pocket folder in a large ziploc bag (labeled). (Leave a copy of everything at home plus a copy with parents if they are there that day)

I have no idea if USNA needed anything from him......but he had it all! In his wallet was his social security card, drivers license, bank card, $50.

I had read on this forum a story where a Plebe had copies of I-docs stolen from their car, and of course USNA needed his copies. So, I basically taped that folder to my body, handcuffed the attache case to my wrist, implanted the thumb drive under the skin of my shoulder, hired a doberman pincher and SWAT team to guard our room at night.....

What? You didn't use Navy SEALs?

I strongly recommend making contact with your local NA Parents Club regarding CARE packages, how to pack, what to include and when, how and when to ship, etc. I know the club for my area does a very thorough briefing of plebe parents based upon years of experience. This is an excellent resource for parents!
