First, no complaints, we are very happy and proud our DS got accepted to week #1 and is up there now. The only thing that's a little disturbing is that the kids are complaining about the heat & no air conditioning in the rooms at all. Some said they were in a meeting room today and according to their little Iphone thermometers....112* inside! I'm sure that's not very accurate but that's a little toasty.

Is this true? Not that it would hurt for some roughing it but I'm just wondering is this just the dorms where the SS kids are housed or the whole campus? I can't imagine cadets staying there 4 years and no a/c in those uniforms.

I'm sure they are being taken care of but just a heads up for week #2 & #3 SS participants...lots of sweating.

There's no A/C in the barracks, but you generally won't spend that much time there during SLS besides sleeping. There is A/C in other buildings that was nice to have though

Yep, there's no A/C in the barracks. There is A/C in the majority of the academic buildings (exception => Bartlett Hall... lots of fun in the August heat). Usually, cadets just buy fans from the C store, but it is possible to survive without them.

I hope they weren't in the meeting room for a briefing while playing with their Iphones! :shake:

The no A/C really isn't something you notice. Just tell your DS/DD to open the windows at night and to sleep on top of the sheets and it'll all be good.

Yes, LOTS of sweating. Those are the same rooms that they would live in during Beast Barracks and as cadets. Last summer was one of the hottest on record and those cadets that were admitted sweated A LOT. It took a FEW WEEKS before they were allowed to get fans in their rooms. They survive and adapt. So consider it as prep for if
and when they get accepted:smile:

Coming soon-
new barracks with *gasp* air conditioning!

Won't be completed for anyone that is a current cadet/appointee though.

One letter we received from our son during Beast said he was allowed to buy a small desk fan at the C store...his words: That was the best $10 I ever spent! The cadets do get used to the heat and humidity over time.

Buff81 - I can't tell my newly graduated son there will be AC in the barracks, he will be appalled.

I'm at SLS right now and the auditorium without A/C is in Mahan Hall and no, the barracks do not have A/C either. But honestly, it's not anything worth complaining about it's not that bad at all.

Oh- but you should!
Just so he can have the satisfaction of saying, 'The Corps Has...' :shake:
