I am anticipating saying goodbye to my DS one month from today at the USNA. Without this forum, I think I would be having a much more difficult time with this, however, reading the posts from other parents that have helped each other along the way gives me much comfort.

I am not sure about the rest of you, but watching my DS struggle from afar and not being able to help is going to take more counsel than just my husband can provide:smile: I am glad to know that I will have many "shoulders" to cry on...and hopefully will provide a shoulder for someone else. It will also be great to share the many successes we will see along the way...we are sending our children off to the most amazing place and I know we are going to see unbelievable changes in them!!

Let's all enjoy the next month with our sons and daughters and I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next 4 years...we are very lucky parents (and maybe there was some skill involved in our parenting too)

WOW, it IS only 1 month from today!!! We will also be there sedning off our son as well! I agree that this forum is a constant source of information and encouragment and i am also very greatful! It will be great to meet and keep in contact as we all begin this journey with our kids!

It's funny that we also thought about the fact that it is only one month til I day. It has been an interesting journey. Many times it felt like a roller coaster ride, lots of ups and downs. DS applied, was rejected. Attended college/ prep school. Reapplied, was wait-listed. Offered an appointment third week in May! DS will join the class of 2015 on his birthday. What a way to celebrate!!?? DH and I are looking forward to meeting many of you on "I" Day !

:thumb:Congrats to all!!! Having just finished the first year as a newbie plebe mom... all I can say is good luck!

You will be happy, sad, proud, anxious, annoyed, irritated, scared, excited, happy proud sad anxious annoyed irritated sacred excited happy proud sad anxious annoyed irritated sacred excited happy proud sad anxious annoyed irritated sacred excited happy proud sad anxious annoyed irritated sacred excited happy proud sad anxious annoyed irritated sacred excited

over the course of the next 12 months! But mostly proud!!! I learned that a glass of wine at the end of the day helped tremendously.:thumb:

countdown to Iday

:thumb:DH and I said to DD yesterday "One month to I-Day" too! Can't wait to meet the other parents who have posted here. So much good information is in these forums! :thumb:

I am already feeling all of these emotions...I think it may take at least 2 glasses of wine to get me through plebe summer:shake:

If you think it has been a roller coaster so far...hang on for the ride of your life! But, it is all worth it when you get a call from your former Plebe saying, "I really like this stripe!" (Of course, the next day I got a call in which he was complaining that his leave block was shortened because his first block was extended...Welcome to the Navy!)

Keep visiting the forums! We all need all the support and encouragement we can get...people to be there when things are rough, to celebrate with us when our kids excel...people who REALLY understand!

Plebe summer? Vodka, straight..... I was able to shift down to wine after parent plebe weekend!

Singaporemom...thanks for a good laugh!!! Just put the vodka in the freezer to get ready:)

You meant two glasses per day, right? :shake:

It really is true that Plebe Summer feels like 1/3 of the entire 4 years, and the rest of Plebe year is the second third. After that, watch out, because time really flies! It feels like yesterday, not 3 years ago that my Mid was getting ready for I-day.

Have fun with your Plebes-to-be this month. This summer will be the start of an amazing period of development for them. While it is difficult for us parents to let go, it is also tremendously rewarding to watch these great young men and women become responsible adults, ready to lead others. Enjoy the ride!

I never drank as much as during Plebe summer.... seemed i always needed a little nip at the end of the day.

I became so superstutious, too. On I-day my husband and I got wristbands from the Texas table at the picnic... We couldn't remove them until PPW. Whenever we said Nick's name, we rubbed the bracelet. And, I had to put a thumbtack in the bulletin board at the beginning of each day to count down his 'time'.

I look back now and laugh. He did fine at "summer camp"....much better than I did!

Too funny, we also got yellow and blue wristbands. DH, my 2 DDs and I wore them nonstop. My DDs and I removed ours after PPW, but DH (who wears a business suit to work everyday) wore his until after the Herndon climb last week!

I used the nervous energy of plebe summer to my advantage. I figured if DS was going to be working hard, so would I. I decided to work on getting in better shape (didn't think about the alcohol option:shake:). It was great to show up at PPW 20 pounds lighter then when I dropped DS off for I-Day!

I love this forum!!! So glad to know you are all "out there"...in 30 days you will be my lifeline:biggrin:

That probably would have been a better option for me!!!:yllol:

OK....I'll use summer cruise as my time to get in ship shape!!!:thumb:

If you have not already joined the local parents' club, I strongly recommend you do so. These people have experienced almost all of the emotions you will and know the terrain very well. Best of all, they are very willing to share their knowledge and are from your local area so you can give them a call or meet them for lunch or dinner. The local organization has been great in helping new parents through the first year - and more, plus offers social events. Give it strong consideration - and best wishes to all of you.

I am looking forward to the Parents Club picnic next weekend...i am hoping that all my questions will be answered and maybe some of my anxiety will lessen...at least until I watch my DS walk away on June 30:redface:

Not a USNA mom, but a CGA mom, and all I have to say is this.....All of the new and exciting things your DS or DD will experience over the next four years will help to wipe away any of the residual fear, worry and sadness (which are of course felt in equal measure to the pride, happiness and excitement!) you may be feeling at this point. While you are truly "letting them go", they do tend to be really happy to come home and share with you all that they have accomplished on their very own. Truly a reward for a parenting job well done!
Congrats to the families of 2015!

You know, Plebe Summer was a walk in the park compared to the first semester for my DS...and for us. Whatever experiences this first year brings to yours, please know that we are here for you!!! Bring your questions, your fears, your tears, your triumphs!! We can't wait to share them with you!

Have a great last few weeks with your kids because soon they will be "kids-no-more"! You will not believe the transformation...and you will burst with pride when you see them on parents weekend in that uniform! :thumb:
