Reporting to West Point with an Injury

Can you be sent home and denied admission if you have an injury when you report to West Point?

I went on a boat trip with my family and my dad convinced me not to water ski just in case I get hurt. He heard that West Point will send you home if you report to CBT with even the slightest injury much less an injury that keeps you from participating in CBT. I took his advice but I was wondering if that is actually true. What if I got in a car accident or got injured playing sports? Can anyone elaborate?

During in-processing on R-day or thereafter you will undergo a physical. If you do not pass the physical, you will not be able to complete training.

If you should suffer an injury before R-day, contact Admissions; they will guide you regarding what action you should take. If you are injured during training after R-day, you might be able to continue on profile, or be recycled to the following year, or be separated should the injury be too serious (heaven forbid!).

In other words, be careful between now and R-day. You may want to search the forum archives for the term "bubble-wrap".
 
It is very true, so much so, that they have a reg of how many days you can miss during CBT. I believe it is 8. It is not only injury, but a reason now why Swine Flu shots are required.

Water ski, dislocate your knee, and you open up a whole ball of wax that can be nightmarish.

There was a poster on this site about 2 yrs ago. Their DS tripped getting off the bus at the AFA. Dislocated his knee and was sent home that day as a medical turnback. Returned the following yr to get "sorry, you don't pass" and sent packing again.

It is different once you are there as a cadet in the system, but in the beginning the best philosophy is BUBBLE WRAP! In other words it is not a old wives tale that your Dad told you, it is true, and many people have seen it happen.

PS: I love it when they do that, because inevitably a little while later, they change their POV, and ask so if this happens, what should I do?

I don't know, maybe because you just told me an hr ago, I didn't know anything, and now I am LMAO in my mind, thinking TOLD YOU SO!

Contrary to kids belief, we didn't have you out of love. We had you because your just funny to be around and are the only way we legally can have servants without paying for them! Nobody flame me...JK!
 
Any sort of injury can be scary--My DS had a minor injury which involved removing a small pebble near his kneecap which became embedded after a fall. The injury did not in any way affect his training; running, cycling, etc. and we did the honest thing and reported the injury and removal of a foreign body to DoDmerb. I guess he was DQ'd the minute they read the word "knee":eek: This occurred very close to R-day. We had to apply for a waiver from USMA, etc. and received some Valuable help and advice from Mr Larry Mullens, prayed A LOT! He was granted a waiver the Monday before he was to report. Bubble Wrap is a must!
PS I will be thinking of Mr Mullens with very grateful memories during the running of the Belmont:wink:

What process did you go through to getting a waiver? Was he able to get in by only some mercy by them or did the waiver process get him through with ease?

This thread is 4 years old, and the person who you quoted hasn't logged into this site in 2.5 years. Maybe someone else can help with your question, but don't expect a direct answer from adoloris.
