NEW USAFA website

Well...

I've been "outdone" by you!

ALO's were just given this site to "review, critique, and relay" VERY recently.

And as you say, it's first rate!!

Good job posting it for all!! :thumb:

I too really like it. I hope the add a few more things from the academyadmissions.com site. "They still like to it with the new site, but that site is way too busy". But there is still some info on the other site that's very good. If they can add a little to the new sight, it will be awesome.

Great site thanks for passing this one on. I just forwarded it to my DS.

how had i not seen that video? Ryan is an awesome guy (class of LUKE!). I find it funny they show a cadet marching tours (0:57). 5:16 is medical turnback ball! sad they don't play anymore

the site is definitely "cool" as all get out, but i'm kind of disappointed that there isn't as much emphasis on the warrior ethos aspect that the academy is supposed to instill in its officers.

that is to say, the videos are more about how the academy is a "unique college experience" (which it most definitely is, i'm sure), but there should be more of a "we are in the business of killing people and breaking things and if you don't like that then don't even think about applying because that's what you (or your son or daughter) will be doing, or directly supporting, so you better take a good long hard in the mirror should you start this application process" kind of mindset (except maybe not as wordy )

lol, if i were chief of recruiting this would be the first video on the site:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmY4FnxcN9E

but maybe its just that i don't have a politically correct bone in me to try and appeal to the masses in such a polite, neatly packaged, kind of way.

I really like the site from a design perspective; however, I am not a fan of designing the entire site in Flash. Just like the Academy Admissions site, I this it is a usability issue. Some users are not familiar with Flash or are afraid of Internet Explorer's warnings about third party add-ons. On my computer, for instance, Flash runs really slow and laggy. I run Linux on my laptop, and the Flash support for my OS isn't the best. The animations are choppy and slow. Trying to watch the videos is a struggle. They could have implemented the entire page with alternate methods that wouldn't require an additional plug-in. Granted, you need Flash for YouTube videos, for now at least, but I would rather have that be the only issue than the whole page.

Yeah, I did notice that the played the military aspect REALLY low key. From the video it seemed like the "military" side of things was standing in formation on the T-zo, and a few half-second clips of the Combat Shooting Team at CATM.
